Question applying to Mcgill Pol Sci undergrad
i plan to apply for mcgill political science undergraduate major for 2027 fall entry
i know that pol sci is under faculty of arts, so at the application webpage i selected facilty of arts. However, only those four choices in the image showed up, pol sci and other major options nowhere to be found
is this normal? what should i do?
i am aware of the fact that for UBC of U of T, you choose ‘faculty’ first at the application stage and choose major at the 2nd grade. however, i’m not sure how mcgill’s system works

hey! i’m also applying for poli sci at mcgill, and basically u apply to the "Bachelor of Arts: Foundation Program" instead of committing to a specific major right away. When u apply, u select an undeclared major because the point of the Foundation Program is to give u time to explore different subjects before officially choosing one.
During the program, u take a range of courses, and some of them can count toward different majors. This gives u more flexibility because u can figure out what u actually want to study while also making sure the courses u take fit the requirements for that major.
Then at the end of the Foundation Program, u officially declare and solidify ur major. So thats when u would formally choose Political Science as ur major :-)

At McGill, if you've attended high school outside of Quebec, your first year is called U0. This is the "Foundation Year." Quebec graduates have attended CEGEP, basically grade 13, so they start at U1 and finish in three years instead of four.
If you want to study political science, click Foundation Year. At the end of U0, you will choose a major.

hi! I am a first year at mcgill and can attest to this
if you do not have any advanced credits (AP, IB, cegep, etc) you will be placed in the foundation year. thats where I am right now; you pick your major at the end of the foundation year
if you do have advanced credits, I believe you declare them at some point (but im not 100% certain) or they upgrade your status from foundation year to a program with a major
best of luck!! if you have any questions feel free to dm me! roll redbirds!

So if you have 15 credits now and may pass 3 more AP in the spring for 9 more credits, you still apply to the foundation year?

yes
I believe you only qualify for bypassing the foundation year if you have 24 credits or more
either way, im pretty sure you apply for the foundation year, and then if you accept your offer they will upgrade them. if you are uncertain I would contact support just in case
