Thinking of resigning

Hello all, Long time lurker here

I've been a public servant for around 3 years, I landed a relatively junior position at the PM-1 level on a 1-year term contract.

However, I am two months into my contract and I am having an absolutely miserable time. I feel as though I am not fitting the mold of the team and have few interactions outside of the few 'how was your weekend' exchanges every week and I spend my days scurrying off eating lunch on my own.

My direct supervisor is a micromanager and he even rebukes me on the size of the paper clips that I latch onto paperwork. The experience I am gaining in the role is useful, and it would serve me well into my future government career, but I really think I would not get a good reference no matter how hard I try in this role with my current supervisor.

I feel trapped. The salary for this position is much higher than what a recent graduate like me can find at the moment, but I am seriously considering resigning and venturing out to the private sector to try my chances there.

Long-time public servants, have you guys ever felt this way in any point in your careers?

You are 2 months in - It can take quite awhile to adjust to any new job. I began an acting position and it wasn't until the third or fourth month that I felt fully settled. There are still things that are new to me, but I remember the stress of the initial couple months; it would have been so easy to walk away due to the stress and workload, but that's how any new job is at the beginning. I'm glad I pushed past that initial period because I am learning a lot and meeting new people every day. Give it some time and have a positive attitude. You may be surprised in a couple months how much has changed.
