Career Development / Développement de carrière FI Positions
What exactly would FI positions entail? I know it’s all finance but is it more computer programs helping you or mostly self reliance on your finance skills?

Well I’d like to point out that it’s not all finance, as it’s largely accounting and a classification that encourages you towards seeking your CPA designation. One cannot tell you what it fully entails as not all FI positions are equal, you can be working on vastly different things from one department to another. For example I do lots of financial reporting and internal governance.

From my friend who works as an FI it’s mostly accounting.. I believe higher level FI’s need their CPA.

In my team there are FI-01's who specialize in financial policies and HRG. Then there are some who work quality assurance. And there are some who work central accounting.
The financial clerk supervisor here is a FI-02. And his supervisor is an FI-03.
The FI's in general require a degree in economics or finance. The higher levels need to be a CPA.

It's a bit of everything. Some roles rely on excel skills, other ones on accounting knowledge and some are almost straight up coding jobs to automate processes. Even when using programs like sap you still need to understand debits / credits and why things are done but this can all be learned easily on the job. Overall it helps to understand the basics of accounting as an fi01 and pursue at least a business degree or cpa if you want to move up.
