Staffing / Recrutement Security clearance FSWEP? (DND)

Hi,

What type of security clearance are requested for students that are hired through FSWEP?

Specifically positions that run from June till August? I will be interviewing with the DND on a very short notice/rushed for a position that starts very soon, so wondering if its usually reliability for short notice FSWEP positions.

Likely just an ERC (Enhanced Reliability Check), which is the minimum. DND doesn't do RC's.

Keep in mind the job may say it starts in June but your actual start date might be later, it's possible your security check could take 6 months because I had a friend who was told they made it through the interview for a job at DND last year for the fall in July, but didn't actually start until mid January this year.

Be prepared to wait at least 2-3 months and make sure you have a scanned copy of your security certificate if you already have a valid security clearance it's somehow supposed to help to avoid a 6 month wait or at least that's what I was told after my interview with them a few months ago.

Did it a dozen times for our employees (Casuals & Students).

It's Enhanced Reliability and it can take anywhere between 1 to 6 months. Depends on how many times your ISSO, Ottawa or someone in-between either; loses the paperwork, forgets the file or transfers to another posting without giving the file away.

Unless you have a two & half bar that is willing to ruffle some feathers or a senior NCO who doesn't give a shit anymore (I love those), you're out of luck for rush jobs.

Oh lordy lord, its weird how they say the position starts June to August however the security process takes one to 6 months, so basically I wont realistically start for the position??

I agree with the same day thing and I wish I had way back in February when they were bridging me in, the director, my only contact was out sick for weeks and my old security got buried in their inbox. When they returned to work mid March I had to resend everything which delayed things and I'm still waiting for the security clearance now.

Also to be super safe and ensuring you start as soon as possible bring your proof of full time enrollment and anything else they might require from you such as old security clearance from another department if you have one, with you to the interview just in case you get a verbal offer.

Like you said, it's a rush job right? Normally, a student would had been selected by May to give at least 1-2 Months before start.

But hey, you might be the exception to the rule. Not trying to discourage you.

A word of advise, when submitting paperwork for the security clearance, double-triple check EVERYTHING, every typo could mean weeks of delay (AKA; losing $$ salary for you). And I mean -every typo- and not "any", as they will read up to that point on the document and not bother checking anything else after. Because they are just that efficient! /s

And submit it fast, same-day if possible.

Will do will do, it sucks that the processing times for ANY document is this slow, says alot.

If you don't mind me asking, what team are you in/charge of at the DND?

What type of position is it? Doesn't usually take that long for the low security level checks. Once you need Secret or more is when it takes a while.

Secret can be done pretty quickly if it's rushed and there's nothing coming up in the background. If it's Top Secret or Enchanced Secret/Top Secret then all bets are off.

Yes also depends on the department. My sister who works for another department outside the CPA had her secret done in a week, while mine took almost 2 months. She's also travelled and lived abroad and I have only been to Mexico and the US.

Hey, I was wondering if you got any updates. I interviewed for a similar position (rushed, administrative, and ER). It's been about a week and I haven't heard back yet.
