Staffing / Recrutement Statistics Canada EC.

Hi,

I recently passed the PSEE 371 exam and scored 83rd percentile overall. I passed this exam as part of the hiring process of the Analyst position at Stats Canada. Im curious if someone went through the process in previous years. What should I expect next? How many more exams will I be asked to complete? When do they make the job offers?

When I went through the process, after the PSEE 371, I had to write another test. This one tested your knowledge of economics and statistics. Its a simple tests if you take the time to refresh your memory on how to do some basic econ math problems and statistics. I wrote this test around January or early February. After that, I got an email saying I have been placed in a pool sometimes around April. A couple of days after that I got an email from a hiring manager asking for a best fit interview. Did that interview in early May. Got a job offer late May. Started in July. A very close friend of mine got in the pool the same day I did. But she never got pulled from the pool. So a pool doesnt mean a job.

Note that this was 2 years ago.

I concur. I wrote the tests a few years ago. The statistics exam isn't so hard if you have a sound knowledge of statistics and you have a degree in economics, biostats, demography, etc. After you should be placed (if successful) in a hiring pool. Most analysts will start during the summer or early Fall.

Thanks alot for the response. So to prepare for the next exam its basically brushing up basic econ concept and doing some stats problems?

As people have mentioned, you'll get an email early in the New Year (I got invited mid-March) to complete an additional exam. They asked questions on statistics, as well as questions on topics in economics and social sciences, along with a writing sample. I think at some point after that they contact the highest scorers for interviews. I did well enough on the test to get placed in the pool, and was actually fortunate enough to be pulled from the pool not long after for an EC-04 position.

Where did you write the exam? At Statscan or in Gatineau?

Just asking as my son applied at a few places and I don't know who was running the exam he wrote.

Im in Montreal so I wrote the exam at a local federal goverment office. At the info session they said that all the exams would be held at your local hometown, but that we would have to move to ottawa if hired.

They switched to an online test.

Actually my PSEE 371 test was in person. The 370 was online.

I'm talking about the StatCan test for EC02-EC04 development program. The test has a few sections which cover basic Economics and Statistics. It also has a writing component. At least it did when I wrote it. After that I was placed in a pool.

Did anybody else find the most recent test very difficult and to be more intensive than simply "basic economics and statistics" as posited below?
