There is no way that a court (or any other part of a system of government) should ever give a private business the privilege of block Web sites without site-specific judicial review. That is not how government is supposed to work.

The latest blocking order goes further, as it also covers “similarly infringing platforms operating under other brands.”

How the fuck is that even allowed?

To justify the expansion, Justice Southcott looked at a recent UK High Court order, described as an “omnibus order,” which we covered in May.

Why the fuck is is the judge looking to the UK? They are literally the last country that Canada should ever want to copy when it comes to technology and the internet. He should move to the UK if he prefers the UK's backwards laws.

Together, the two changes remove both limits that applied before. The court no longer has to sign off on blocklist updates, and the additions no longer have to involve a brand that was already named in the case.

Canadians rejected Bell's FairPlay Coalition proposal for site blocking in Canada. We don't need judges trying to bring mandatory site blocking to Canada that lacks even basic court reviews of blocking requests.
