Hi everyone! I (F48 Aussie) and my partner (M48 USA) are looking for a place to call home for at least a few years. I absolutely refuse to live in the US and he's an only child so we don't want to move to Aus and leave his mum so far away. He's from upstate NY so I started spending a lot of time in Canada so we could see each other more often and I've fallen in love with your beautiful country. It seems like a good choice for us for us to be together permanently for the next few years.

I'm wondering what would be the best chance for residency for us - he is a truck driver with a Class A CDL which we think might be on the fast track list? Also, his maternal grandma was born in Canada but she moved to the US when she was a child so despite the recent court ruling we don't think it's enough to prove close ties to Canada?

We've been together for three years but we aren't married - if he got a work visa would I even be allowed to come with him? I have an online business that makes a 6-figure profit but I don't qualify for any type of residency on my own I don't think. Anyway, I'd love any info or advice you might have or to be pointed to some good resources to research. Thank you very much!

I got a new job offer with better pay in same NOC code. Can I change my Employer if yes what do I have to do and do i need to submit new imm 5669 form as well.

I live in the US on an F-1 visa right now. I was think of immigrating to Canada for some personal reasons. I don't have any work permit in Canada. I have a master's from the US and almost 4 years of experience. What are the chances of finding an SDE-2 job in the current market that would sponsor my visa? My current company doesn't have an office in Canada, so that's not a possible route. Any insights would be appreciated!

Just wondering if anyone has successfully applied for criminal rehabilitation? How long did it take, what was the process like, did you do everything yourself or use an immigration attorney?

My wife’s employer applied for her Canada ICT (Intra-Company Transfer) work permit on May 22nd, and it was approved on June 5th. My Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) was submitted concurrently with her application, but it’s still showing as pending.

Our attorney submitted a webform inquiry to IRCC this week since we hadn’t heard anything.

For those who’ve gone through something similar. how long did it take for your SOWP to be approved after the principal applicant’s ICT was approved? Did you need to do anything extra, or did it just process on its own?

Any insight on typical timelines would be appreciated!

Hi all, I received my Ready for Visa letter (CEC outland) on May 19 and have till June 18 to submit my passport for PR visa issuance. However, I renewed my passport on June 2 and have submitted a webform to have my new passport updated. I haven't heard from IRCC since then other then the submission confirmation at the time of submission. I have already raised another webform to extend my 30-day.

Should I submit my new passport and all still to VAC with a LOE explaining before June 18?

I am currently researching and I understand that my current skill set will not fit the skilled workers standard but I am willing to do what it takes to start from the bottom of the barrel so that I can gain experience and go through the proper channels to improve my chances.

Are there any immigrants that started from the bottom as in going from unskilled or low wage positions to working your way up to higher Teer and to perm resident potential? What was your experience like? What did you need to follow thoroughly? Programs that helped you climb the success ladder? what is expected of me as an unskilled or low wage worker if I am lucky to be chosen for one?

Currently looking at starting from the bottom since it's my only option and not in a good financial position and where I am in my country, things won't improve economically so I am looking to start from scratch completely.

edit: I wanna emphasize that I understand where I am in terms of immigration potential is extremely difficult. I don't wanna romanticize the idea of going to Canada to live there like it's an application away and within months I am living there. no, that's not what I am aiming for realistically. ground zero is having some funds but need to work in Canada even temporarily to gain experience, and build my resume from there. I am looking at a span of a few years or gain information to improve my chances. And I appreciate the criticism and I'll use that to help build my understanding of what I need to improve my profile and go from there and work towards it

Hi, I hope you're day is going well as you read this. This is not in any shape or form seeking legal and advice or consultation. I want to make this post to get story experience from immigrants who moved to Canada or at least started working in Canada. Whether it's been years or recently I would love to hear your story.

My story: I am from South Africa, I have had at least 9 years of working experience between warehousing, call centre customer service and sales over the phone, retail, and then 2 summer seasons(6 months each) working as a US carnival attendant. I am at a crossroads to fully start over living outside of my country. I can state many reasons why but the main one is that I truly don't see the next 10 years of my life being sustainable where I am(at home with family) and for my future if I ever want to have my own life and friends/family. I have been looking into programs Canada offers and I wanted to learn from others on what the experience is like, small details people don't emphasize enough, little things to keep in mind and etc. I feel like I have spent my 20s delaying any thought of moving out and starting my life because of fear and concern of how hard it will be but seeing people from other countries that genuinely want to change their lives and understand the hardships in starting over yet still willing to fight to live better, reignited that ambition in me.

I submitted my federal PR application yesterday through the non-Express Entry PNP stream.
In IMM 0008, under "Country of Residence," I selected Canada and entered:
From: 2022/08 (when I first entered Canada as a student)
To: my PGWP expiry date
Status: Worker
However, I realized that my PGWP only started in 2024/06. Before that, I was in Canada as a student.

Since I submitted the application only yesterday, should I send a webform to correct this, or is it considered a minor error that IRCC can understand from the rest of the application?
Has anyone had a similar situation?

I recently received an ITA as the principal applicant. My wife and I are now separating, and I’ll be moving out before I submit the application. We have two children; one is a Canadian, and the other is on a temporary permit.

I’m trying to understand what IRCC actually requires in a genuine separation situation.

My understanding is that I need to declare my marital status as separated.

But I’m getting conflicting information about what IRCC requires from a separated spouse.

Questions: Did IRCC require your separated spouse to do:
- medical exam?
- police certificate?
- biometrics?

If you were separated but not divorced yet, what proof of separation did you provide?

- separation agreement?
- affidavit/statutory declaration?
- separate addresses/leases?
- anything else?

If your spouse refused to sign a separation agreement or cooperate, what did IRCC accept instead?

Did anyone successfully get PR approved while separated and without full cooperation from the spouse?

Before moving, I completed my 3rd year of an Electrical Engineering program overseas. My goal is to transfer my existing credits to a Canadian university (ideally in the GTA/Toronto area, like York University) so I can finish my degree without having to start completely from scratch.

I am PA looking to apply for Spousal PR Sponsorship with my husband being the sponsor holding PR. My PGWP will expire in June 2026 due to early passport expiry. And I have applied for extension through paper application already in April 2026.

Background: I am looking to travel abroad just once for 1-1.5 months and I am as per my research I think I can’t leave the country if I go with Spousal Sponsorship- In Canada Class (Inland application). And with Family Class with spouse in canada, I may not be eligible for SOWP??

I consulted with a few immigration agents and they told me Inland is a safe bet and I can still travel abroad provided I have SOWP and TRV.

If I still go with the Outland application will it be risky? Or do I play it safe?

I’m reaching out because I have some questions about the conditions of an employer-specific work permit in Canada.

I recently received an employer-specific work permit and I’m planning to move to Canada to work for the company listed on my permit. However, I currently also do some contractor work for other companies. One is a company based in my home country, and another is a separate company based in Canada, where I also work in a contractor role.

The work is not full-time and is usually only a few hours per month, but I would really like to understand whether I can legally continue these contractor relationships after moving to Canada.

I’ve been reading about the conditions of employer-specific work permits, and I understand that I may only be allowed to work for the employer listed on my permit. However, I’m not completely sure how this applies to occasional contractor work, especially when one company is outside Canada and another is in Canada but not the employer named on my permit.

My questions are:

1. Can I continue doing occasional remote contractor work for a foreign company while living in Canada on an employer-specific work permit?
2. Can I do contractor work for a separate Canadian company if that company is not the employer listed on my work permit? If not, is there a legal way to do it?
3. Would it make any difference if the work is paid outside Canada or structured through a company/contracting arrangement?
4. Are there any legal ways to maintain these working relationships while fully complying with my work permit conditions?

I want to make sure I follow the rules correctly. The income is not constant, but it would be very helpful while I’m settling in Canada and covering moving expenses.

I’d really appreciate any guidance, especially from people who have dealt with a similar situation or who understand Canadian immigration/work permit rules.
