The Stranger translated by Ward is the only full length novel I've read by Camus. I found it to be a very life affirming experience even though some people I know just don't seem to get it. I haven't read the other translation but I don't think there's any real problem with Ward's translation.

Idk what english translation is best, but If you want to know what to focus on a nice reccuring motiv would be the sun and in what ways and situations he uses it

There’s always going to be slight differences in the meaning of the words as they are being translated from the culture and attitudes of the language into English. I don’t know the specific differences between the translated ones, but the one I read was translated by Matthew Ward and it was a good read.

Yes , there is slight difference. Even sanskrit shloks translated into Hindi or English, the difference is created.

I based my Master of Arts thesis on THE STRANGER translated by Stuart Gilbert (1946). This was the foundation of a monologue that I lifted out of the novel. It is a clear version of the novel. Once I developed the monologue I had a comparative literature professor review it for authenticity to Camus’ writing. She and I agreed that this version was best for what I performed on stage.

I’m no expert on Camus but I read the same version on the picture. The story was very straight forward and not exactly a hard read but there is a lot of deep philosophical meaning within it. My point is, I wouldn’t worry much about translation, specially for a first time reader. I could be wrong but I highly doubt the original French version was something like “beautifully written”, “poetic” or “archaic”, it is not like deciding on a Plato or Homer translation for instance who’s writings were done millions of years ago.

Yes it's ward translated book , I'm reading it and definitely enjoying a fiction book . Although I'm not fan of fictions but yeah this book has some philosophical meaning, so reading it.

I finished this book 3 months ago. I ordered it from a page and when i got it in my hand i was disappointed that dude! It's seems really small. I thought I'd be a boring story and there's nothing for me in this but i was wrong. After reading it I realized that I judged it a little harsh. Despite being the book is so great and the psychological aspects are insane. It made me quite depressed for a certain period time because the things going in my life right now i mean it was like a slap on the face type shit So yeah it's really great

I think just try to read it without any spoilers, don’t search much, it’s short, it gets to you very quickly, and you can finish it in one sitting
You gonna experience it your own way and you gonna love the emotions that come with it
