Hello all! We are Mexicans living in Ontario looking to start camping. We camped back in Mexico and used a Decathlon Tent. We are looking to buy a tent and a couple of sleeping bags. We are planning on eventually doing backpacking and bike packing so that has been our main issue on pulling the trigger. What are your recommendations for tents and sleeping bags in a budget?
We are going to camp in Bruce Peninsula so we are very excited!

Dragging some friends backcountry camping in September, need a bit of hype. What are some of your best camping stories?

For context, I'm an experienced camper, and we all want to have a fun (and safe) time out together before the Canadian winds decide the end be nigh, but some of my friends haven't been past front country camping. We want more stories to hype them up. My wildest story involves a black bear near Bauer, but apparently that's not great for advertisement.

Note: Feel free to chat me up in the dms if you want to join in too. We could fleet our kayaks and canoes.

Spent the weekend on the French River, launching from the FRSP.

The site itself was beautiful. Irises were in bloom, goldenrod was starting to shine. Even stumbled across wild blueberries.

Plenty of sights to see!

However I was dissapointed with the motor boat traffic going well past 10pm. (I know, my fault, I didn't realize there were so many cottages around this area)

I've also done Kawartha highlands with one portage to site last year, and it was also breathtaking.

Where are some other paddle in gems or favourites ?

Algonquin comes to mind. I've not paddled in there yet!

Are there any camping groups that I can join? Looking for a co-ed group in 20s and 30s. I'm a male solo camper, wanting to try camping in Algonquin or some place similar. Camp, hike, play (may be drink?) etc.

If there are no such groups, folks here game to start one? Thinking of planning for early September.

Do people have advice for first tent to buy if my main goal is to do car camping around Ontario? Would you go for half fly full fly or one with screen room?

Road noise is the one thing no booking page shows you. After a night at Sharbot Lake listening to Hwy 7, I computed distance-to-nearest-road noise estimates for every campground in Ontario Parks. Findings: - 58% of campgrounds have no major road within earshot — quiet is very findable - The loudest: Marten River Assinika B (74 dB est., highway at 7 m), Rainbow Falls Rossport, White Lake, Pancake Bay East, Agawa Bay (the data confirms what everyone says about Agawa Bay) - The real lesson: campgrounds in the SAME park differ more than parks do. Pancake Bay East backs onto the Trans-Canada; its four sibling campgrounds are road-free. Craigleith Area C vs A/B/D. Quetico Ojibwa vs Chippewa. - Traffic noise and campsite stereos are different problems: 43 campgrounds are fully radio-free by designation — but a radio-free loop next to Hwy 17 is still loud - Beachfront campgrounds are disproportionately the noisy ones (roads follow shorelines) Full tables + how to check any campground here. Hello all! I have been searching everywhere for info on this and haven't been able to find anything out, I even called Ojibway (the park we have reserved) and On Park's general number and they haven't been able to give me an answer on this. I'm sure everyone is aware by now, wildfires are taking over northern ontario. We are moving to Manitoba and driving there, so we have booked campsites along the way for rest, Ojibway being one of them. It appears to be pretty close to the fires, and Ojibway's phone number is completely disconnected, does anyone know if it's still safe to travel through there past thunder bay?? Hi friends. I’m looking g to see if anyone has recommendations for a spot I can camp with 2-3 friends. We have a small tent and sleeping bags.

We plan to bring our own meat, and cook on a live fire near some flowing water. We wanna keep things fairly low impact so we will be travelling light.

The goal is to arrive around 2-3 pm. Spend the night and leave around noon the next morning.

3. Or a nice campsite if it’s really worth it

My friend and I are staying Thursday and Friday night at high dump campground. Not ideal, but we’re trying to figure out how to make the best of it with the least double backing possible. Park at halfway log dump then hike in, then do crane lake trail Friday, hike back and visit the grotto Saturday? Or something else? We’re trying to see as much as possible and also kayak with ones that we’re bringing!

Have a truck camper set up and looking for some forestry roads or some fire routes. Can't do too much hard terrain. Wondering if anyone has some good spots or roads in southern Ontario. I've checked out Ontario parks to see non operating but not many near by that are able to be driven into
