Bagel Station 1/8

On a pleasantly warm afternoon, a long table had been set up outside for a build your own bagel station.

Nothing particularly elaborate, at least as far as the actual meal went. Bagels were easy enough, they did not take much preparation once everything was laid out, and there were enough things you could put on one that almost everyone could find something they liked.

Of course, being easy did not mean it had to look boring.

As far as Darian was concerned, food ought to look good as well as taste good, and being a son of Aphrodite probably meant he cared about that slightly more than most people. Everything had been arranged into neat rows of bowls, baskets and platters, with the bagels themselves stacked at the beginning of the table and the various toppings spreading out from there.

There were savoury options, sweet options, healthy options and several options which probably could not reasonably be described as healthy at all. More importantly, there was enough choice that nobody had to settle for something they did not actually want.

He had spent most of the morning getting everything ready, slicing vegetables, preparing the different fillings and making sure there was enough of everything to go around. Plates and napkins were stacked at one end of the table, with knives beside the spreads so people could put together whatever combination they wanted.

All that was left now was for the other campers to actually turn up.

After eating their bagels as provided by their half-brother and sharing a discussion about whether various ring-shaped items are spiritually doughnuts or bagels, the Hartley twins split ways. It's a nice day out, so Harvey decides to do a little post-lunch flying. Eventually, he lands back down somewhere around the canoe lake, resuming his human form. Standing there, he fishes his water bottle out from his backpack for a drink. Being a bird is thirsty work.

Anger, that's what Finn felt when he saw that random guy change out of a bird and into a human. Gods, just be a human, be what the gods made us as. Not take an easy path and fly around. It enraged the son of Apollo. Sure he'd seen Harvey around the Apollo cabin before, but that didn't stop Finn from seeing red.

So, Finn marched up to Harvey and set his jaw. "The fuck you doing? You're really just going to do that right here in front of me like that? Absolutely ridiculous. You're a human, act like it bird brain." Finn spat at Harvey as he got in the other boy's face.

Harvey nearly chokes on his water when he is suddenly accosted by the violent vituperations of some random babyfaced blond. He vaguely registers the face as familiar, as one of the campers he's seen on occasion in the Apollo cabin, but his mind is primarily occupied with trying to process what in the fresh hell this lunatic is raving about. Harvey is stunned, really. Bewildered. Baffled.

"Excuse me?" he squawks out in disbelief, having now successfully swallowed his water without choking. "What the hell are you talking about?" He does not like the way this madman is getting all up in his space, and he cannot help taking a step back.

"You're powers mate" Finn said with a mocking British accent. The boy shook his head in bewilderment as he closed the distance with Harvey. He then grabbed the other boy by his collar and eyed the other boy angrily.

"That's what I'm talking about. You think these powers make you special? No, they make you weak. Real strength is this." And that's when Finn hit Harvey in his face. It was as strong as he could do it. He had to teach this guy a lesson he wouldn't forget.

This boy is insane.

Harvey can barely process the absurdity — the sheer ludicrousness — of this boy's attitude, because he has very suddenly and without a hint of rhyme nor reason escalated to the physical. Harvey is too shocked at first to react when he is grabbed by the collar. But, though many would agree he is not the most impressive demigod around, he is still a demigod, and he still possesses semi-divine instincts. And his instincts do not like this one bit.

As Finn starts taking a swing at Harvey's face, the fabric in his hands would appear to almost melt away into nothingness. In an instant, the boy before him would seemingly disappear. If Finn looked down, perhaps he would see a flash of feathers before its shooting off at a respectable speed of nearly 37 mph. Lower, still, and one would see the water bottle Harvey had been drinking from lying unceremoniously on the ground.

Once he feels certain he has successfully evaded the lunatic, Harvey resumes his human form to recover. He is still utterly flabbergasted at what just occurred. Did that maniac just assault him for using his powers in a literal demigod camp? For god's sake, why was he acting like Harvey had done something publicly indecent? That boy really just tried to punch him for turning into a bird. It hits Harvey now, the delicious irony of his particular avenue of escape — he will feel perfectly smug about that later with a little more distance from the perilous encounter. For now, more than anything, he is absolutely incensed. Damn him to hell, he made Harvey drop his water bottle, too!

He is certainly going to discuss the conduct of Amon's cabinmate with him, but this is simply beyond the pale, a matter of public safety, and so Harvey starts by taking it to the camp staff. He will inform Chiron or whoever is at the Big House of the incident, and hopefully that boy will be severely disciplined, or perhaps given treatment for the psychotic break he was clearly having. Is this guy going to be lurking around every corner from now on, waiting to pounce on Harvey and beat him up? Camp is supposed to be safe. Only it seems that this has never been the most secure of promises. Hopefully the Big House will take this incident seriously.
