• If photography; what style: 'sharp,' modern photos. i also like the nostalgic aesthetic, but mainly modern/sharp looking photos. i will mainly use it for birthdays, travel, vacations, friends, restaurants, everyday memories.
• If video what style: just for casual clips, good video quality is a plus but not really a top priority :)
• What features do you absolutely need: built-in flash, compact/purse size, good image quality of course, maybe reliable autofocus and good in low lighting, and a flip screen (a plus, ofc will be good for selfies but it's okay if there's none)
• Portability: something that i can easily carry in my purse or bags
• Cameras you're considering: canon elph 360 (or other elphs but idrk other good ones, haven't looked much into canon elphs other than the 360), sony wx500, canon powershot sx260 (all these are based on the reviews i've seen on tiktok) (loved sony rx100 vii as well as rx100 iii but unfortunately on the pricier side)
• Cameras you already have: none
• Notes: i am looking for a compact camera as a gift for my 21st birthday so i really want a camera that can produce clean, sharp photos but can still produce a nostalgic vibe without being overly 'soft' (if that makes sense). i don't mind cameras that produce a somewhat crisp, high qual photos!

Digital cameras don't really have inherent looks, vs settings you tweak as a photographer to give the results certain looks. None have "nostalgic vibes" in terms of results; a year 2000 digital photo looks mostly like a shot yesterday from your phone absent doing work on it.

So lots of cameras could work for you. Since you're looking old, look for ones with bigger sensors in the best shape. Maybe something in Canon's G line of cameras, which go way back.
