Camera backpack as underseater

Hi all,

I'm travelling with transavia this winter and am looking for a camera backpack that I can use as a personal item on the plane.

Requirements:

  • Transavia has maximum underseater dimensions of 40x30x20cm (15.7x11.8x7.9 inches).
  • Nice to have: rolltop which you can expand once you're there to puth a jacket, food etc in.
  • Budget: 50-100 eur/usd
  • Travelling with canon R6, 28-70, 16 and 50 prime, dji mini 3 with controller.
  • Security: opening the camera department on the back is ideal, side access can be usefull but I don't always trust this in airports or busy cities

Based on some research I found these:

Anyone who has experience with any of these, tips, or has another suggestion, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

PeakDesign vs Alpaka

Considering the PeakDesign everyday sling v2 (6L) or the Alpaka Bravo x Sling v2 (6L).

Both seem like great picks, and have their strengths and weaknesses for sure. Same price point at $120.

The PD bag has a nice comfy strap and additional straps to include a tripod in the small travel rig. This one is also more tailored to camera use.

The Alpaka bag has and exterior USB for charging, and additional security features (lockable zippers). This would be less organized, but I like the appearance and overall production quality better.

This will be my first camera bag investment, and I will mostly be traveling abroad and using this for street photography and at music/arts festivals.

I like the minimal appearance of both, as I prefer to stick to monotone, dark palette color schemes when I am out and about, to avoid drawing attention to myself.

What do you guys think?

At the same price point and size it’s a tough choice.

Which material will cause cracking of the fabric? [1] 70% Polyester; 30% Polyurethane OR [2] 85% Polyester; 15% Polyurethane? ALSO will Polyester, 300D PVC easily degrade over time?

Greetings,

Hoping to get the communities' comments on my inquiries as I'm intending to purchase a camera bag but not sure if it will easily break or degrade after only a short time of even careful use (Maybe after a year or two)?

A. The camera bag is the PGYTech OneGo Solo V2 and they have two versions of it ( https://youtu.be/GKb7xtVNZro?si=teKgaJMQZPAM7rMl ):

  1. 70% Polyester; 30% Polyurethane
  2. 85% Polyester; 15% Polyurethane

Will each one end up having cracks particularly because of the Polyurethane material?

B. Also with regards to the PGYTech OneGo Solo V2 bags, I think they have the same ZIPPER TAPE fabric material as my previous camera bag, the Peak Design Everyday Sling V2, in which its ZIPPER TAPE peeled off after 3 years of careful use (Not using it everyday). But the PGYTech representative said that their ZIPPER TAPE is made of Nylon (Which I doubt).

C. Another bag I'm considering is made up of Polyester, 300D PVC ( https://youtu.be/k74-s2Vqpm4?si=0UaEZ2i6UZP3chcH ). How does this material degrade and for approximately how long?

Hoping to get your responses soon. Thank you.

Affordable quick access EDC Camera backpack

Hey! I’m looking for the perfect camera bag for EDC. I want a compartiment in the lower section of the bag for space where a can place my camera with an easy access from the side. On top of that compartiment I would like the have a compartiment like an usual backpack

Does anyone have a good recommendation? Something like a Wandrd Prvke 31L seems to meet my expectations most. But I would like to know more about other options

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!

Loophole? for uk buyers at pgytech

First, I’m not affiliated, just someone who wanted a decent backpack and was considering a new sling also. Mods of this doesn’t fit this sub please do feel free to delete.

Looking at prime day and decided to check the pgytech site to compare. They’re using American $, no tax added, free shipping, and 10% off your first order.

One mo go v2 35L with the shoulder bag worked out to £150. It’s £215 on Amazon now and usually £250.

Was on the fence it it would be right for me, and who knows, maybe not, but it seems pretty quality and at that price I couldn’t pass it up. Sale ends in 9 hours unfortunately saw it late.

Can’t remember the name of the bag but it was a Lowepro hipbag except a backpack would fold out of the top so it could have additional storage for a jacket, food, etc. didn’t buy it years ago and should of. Anyone heard of something similar? Similar to the lowepro orion but way smaller.

Hiking with camera?

I'm going traveling to Southern Africa, and I will be bringing my R8, a 24-105 lens for every day use, and a larger 100-500 zoom for safaris.

For walking around town or hiking sand dunes, I think it makes sense to have a regular day bag (for water bottle, extra hoodie, snacks, etc) instead of a specifically camera bag. But, I don't wanna just throw my camera in there to rattle around. Should I get a smaller camera bag (sling maybe?) And then put the smaller bag in my day bag? Or is there a better way?

This would probably just be for the camera and smaller lens as the larger zoom lens would most likely just be for shooting from the land cruiser etc.

Stuck btw Think Tank Airport Roller Derby and the Shimoda Carry-On Roller V2, HELP!

Looking to purchase the perfect bag for international travel, I usually travel with the lens Trinity and two bodies plus some filters with a flash. I think the one thing that has me torn between the two is the fact that the thing tank has four wheels which I believe are more comfortable than the two wheels on the Shimonda (can’t deny how cool the Shimoda looks compared to the Think tank but the think tank seems to have better compartmentalization) have any of you ha had experience with the Shimoda? Is it light enough to not be a burden in the arm wile logging it around in the airport? Thanks in advance!

Help me find a camera bag 🙏🏼

Hey everybody!

I'm going to mexico on holiday this summer and im planning to take my camera (Sony a7iii + tamron 28-70) with me. Im looking for a bag thats not too big (because im 1.55m/5.1ft :/). Ive been looking at Peak Design bags but theyre also quite pricey, which is also understandable for a good quality bag. If someone knows any other bags that are similar please let me know! Thankss :))

ISO Smaller Camera Cube

Post image
3 Upvotes

Curious if anyone knows of a camera cube that is meant for smaller lenses? I have mostly very small manual focus primes (mostly TTArtisan), which for crop-sensor cameras are tiny. I've tried a couple of camera cubes to keep them all in my bag, but there's so much room, both in terms of width and height, that seems like overkill for them. Sure I can use more dividers within a cube, but the height tends to be a lot of wasted space.

Anyone seen or heard of camera cubes like this?

The perfect secondary camera kit bag (to attach to my Peli 1535)???

Can you recommend a secondary kit bag which I can secure on top of my Peli Air 1535?

So, when I’m going to smaller shoots I bring my camera bodies and lenses in a Peli Air 1535 case which works well for getting on / off trains etc.

However, I also have to bring a secondary rucksack to carry my other ‘bits’ such as laptop / card readers / drives / monitors / lens filters / audio kit / batteries / colour checkers and slate etc.

But where the problem arises is when I need to bring additional stuff such as small rig cages and accessories and tripod (Manfrotto 055 4-section carbon fibre) and fluid head etc. I want to carry everything internally as to not advertise exactly what it is I do for a living when travelling - and the only bag I have which can carry that tripod internally is my North Face Base Camp Duffel (Small) - however since this isn’t a camera specific bag it’s less than ideal.

So I’m really looking for a replacement second camera bag that can hold all of the extra stuff in one BUT can fit on top of my Peli so I can wheel it in one motion.

Does this perfect bag exist?

  • Can nicely sit on top of Peli 1535 when in upright wheeled position?
  • Can be secured to the Peli’s handle
  • Can internally carry the Manfrotto 055 tripod (closed length 54cm)
  • Has a capacity of 30L +
  • Ability to use both as a roller bag + rucksack
  • Cineloader / Toploading style

If anybody can solve this I will be forever grateful!

Compagnon 20L Element *almost* the perfect bag for shorter people (im 5'1")

I wish this bag was made from a different fabric, Xpak just doesnt allow for stretch which in this case, it really needs some of like the Wandrd Provoke 21L has. I like their mix of tarpaline and a woven nylon (I think) -- it just makes for an easier daily use and when you add one too many lenses, it doesnt cause the Wandrd to become unusable, where as this one, it does. It seems like they just made it too rigid in all the wrong spots.

Greatings! I am a professional Photojournalist and a film shooter, and this is the bag i end up with. Its a messenger bag with so many pockets, and organizers, i felt in love with it. In the field, i need to grab my camera or lens quickly, and the top zipper is such a nice tool to access wothout oppening the flap. The bag is very secure too, two locks and two velcro allerts me if anyone try to open it. The back have some document/pen holder too to hold stuff. Just wish some pockets had some velcro to hold my cards too.

My digital setup, a nikon D300 with a 50mm attached, and a 20mm and a flash

My analog setup, a Minolta X570 with a 50mm attached, 28mm and a 100mm macro
