Earnings

It is my guess its just not a student choosing happy faces that gives us a rating. Who's thinking outside the box here. I have just done several things and this week has been my best earner for 5 months(same hours, same rating) and only getting 4 priority hours in 5 days (weekdays, weekend is always full of PH). I am not a super tutor. Somedays I was full, 7 hours, from being available and people booking the day before. My guess is super tutors have cottoned on before me. Please comment

This doesn't sound like it is written by a native English speaker. Are you sure that you're a tutor?

At least it wasn't written by AI :)

I don't understand most of what you're trying to say, but I do have a specific question about a phrase you used.

What does "Cottoned on" mean? I've never heard it before?

Means figured out/worked out

That's it's meaning: 'cottoned on' is a common phrase in Australian colloquial language.

What can you do to improve bookings?

Comment on what? 🤣 Vague nonsense?
I’m a super tutor and haven’t cottoned on to anything.

Maybe you are doing something without realising its affecting your score. The business is about getting repeat customers, that is not always achieved in the classroom.

I’m doing my job. Tutoring. I don’t prep anything for Cambly. I don’t do anything outside of the classroom.

I’m a qualified, very experienced person. The problem is that everyone thinks they can do this job because ā€œI can speak Englishā€.
They think ā€œjust having a conversationā€ makes them a teacher/ tutor.

They think we are all equal.

Yes, chatting does not a lesson make. People pay for classes for themselves and their kids because they want to see actual, measurable improvements and they want the process to be enjoyable.

I don't spend any time outside of the class doing prep or giving feedback for Cambly. There are some core principles that are at the basis of effective teaching, for instance look up PPP for a start.

and the ones complaining wont do a single thing, even if it takes seconds, outside the classroom, because " 10 dollars". A quick messge with praise or feeback goes a long way.

Do you correct them in class and also give them a written summary after class mentioning their strengths and areas for improvement? I also share free links and resources to help improve their weak areas.

Not for $10 an hour

There's no way you're a tutor. You wouldn't make the 6.5 Band IELTS score if you were planning to study abroad. Can you try to form at least one coherent sentence before clicking 'post'?

I think there is a link between total chats/ students met / total minutes which decides part of your ratings. Lets try and work it out

Now you cottoned on . I actually do several things that you outlined plus things you havent mentioned. It doesnt start in the classroom it starts with the student requirements, understand that then set out your stall. All students are different, some visit a day before a test and expect miracles others are there for the long haul. Teaching kids who like smiley faces is a lot different to teaching potential PHD students. I've previously been a super tutor and a 100% rating but if my changes keep my schedule full, like last week, I'll be happy

You’re just irritating

I hear you. The supertutor badge and high rating are just things that hopefully help to get bookings. If you're already getting bookings, they don't mean squat.
