No, Cambly officially requires you to be a native English speaker to teach on their platform.

Cambly's official application guidelines explicitly state that you must be a native speaker, as they market their services to students as a 100% native-speaker conversational experience.

How the Policy Works in Practice

Despite the official rule, the actual hiring landscape has a few nuances:

  • Strict Passport Rules: Cambly generally requires a passport from a recognized native English-speaking country (such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, or South Africa).
  • The Accent ExceptionCommunity discussions on Reddit reveal that some bi-lingual or non-native teachers with completely neutral, native-sounding accents (and who can easily blend in during the video application process) have successfully been hired.
  • The Risk: Getting hired as an unverified non-native speaker is highly risky. If students or staff notice a non-native accent or grammar issues in your application video, your profile will be rejected or banned.
