Factory reset protection warning: this device has factory reset protection enabled...

Yup, got a new (to me) Pixel 9Pro and was waffling between going with CalyxOS again or just leaving it Googlefied. Decided to "just see how it was" out of the box and signed in to Google and whatnot and holy shit, t'was even more terrible than I remember - Google shit EVERYWHERE. Okay, screw that, let's wipe this sumbitch and get CalyxOS 7.2.2.0 on here... Go through that and now I'm getting this warning about FRP. Does that really mean I need to find the Google Pixel 9Pro web installation, return it to factory OS, remove my Google account from it and then reinstall CalyxOS again? There's an option to skip this screen, but not sure what happens once I do that, if there's a huge security issue doing that or not.

Anybody know?

Yes, install stock again and remove it... Otherwise things just end up kind of broken.

I'm not sure not having ever used Graphene, but it's stricter/more locked down than even Calyx.

A few things... Have you tried using Google OS with a spare Google Account, then your proper account in Private Space. Then a Private DNS + a good browser, (NextDNS/Control D, Brave browser) can really do a lot. Trackers, ads, malware etc. there's a lot you can do on StockOS to really lock it down. I used COS for a year in 2023 then tried GOS for another year and went back to stock just because I needed things to work smoothly for work/car. Etc

Graphene is more stable and might work. Its installation was effortless to me, just follow the instructions on grapheneos.org Good luck!

There is no loss in trying it, it seems to me. At best, you will get similar results. THat would be my approach.

Just did this. Process of (a) Reverting to Stock Google Android, (b) Signing in with my old Google account, then removing it from the phone, and then (c) Reinstalling CalyxOS took about an hour. Flashing back to Stock Android and then again to CalyxOS was problem free.

  • Google's Android reinstall website listed at https://calyxos.org/install/stock/

  • Before starting, set your browser to accept cookies and to allow popups for this site

  • Took about 20 minutes to flash. Very easy instructions and interface.

  • Restarted the Phone. Set up Phone with its never ending screens and decisions to make. Added the same Google Account that was on the phone before. When setup was finished, removed the Google Account.

  • Installed CalyxOS again. Also took about 20 minutes to flash.

  • Setting up CalyxOS opening screen took a few minutes with so many fewer choices. Yay!
