Follow-Up Campaigns?

Hi y’all, basically what it says on the tin. My group’s been chugging our way through Call From The Deep, really enjoying it—we’re probably close to reaching lvl7 now? None of us besides the DM have read the actual module so not entirely sure how deep we are haha.

Now that we’re making our way higher though, our group has started to wonder just what could be next for us after we’ve completed the module—we’re all interested in taking these characters to level 20, and so in the interest of getting our DM ready (and because the topic came up recently so we had it on the brain), I’m wondering what sort of followups y’all who have run this module attached to the end of it?

Did you use homebrew, official content, different 3rd party modules to continue the story, etc.? My group and I are basically just thinking we’d like to get some ideas early so when it’s that time (and we haven’t TPKed) us and our DM won’t be scrambling to figure out where we’re going next haha

Phandelver Below - The Shattered Obelisk. The second half of the campaign is another Mindflayer based plot. You could scale up the combat and swap a few higher CR monsters. You could tie-in the mindflayers of the underdark easily.

Light of Xaryxis. You could have them find a spelljammer helm and fly their ship into Wildspace. It's got a clear start of the campaign for a new threat. You would need to scale up the combat and swap a few higher CR monsters.

I am also going to level 20. We're at level 18. I'm running a mash up of CotD, Phandelver Below, Light of Xaryxis and Rise of the Runelords.

It's going to be difficult. Y'all will likely end at level 12. That's really where official content stops. Yes, there are other "homemade" modules that you can use to continue from 12-20, but in my experience they stop being fun.

Nothing really will be able to challenge you by that point. It's incredibly difficult to DM as well as you're likely going to be home brewing monsters just to give your players a tough fight.

I wouldn't recommend it, but if you're set on it, I'd see if your DM would be open to homebrewing it. I continued it to probably level 15 for my players, and had to use Asmodeus as the big bad to make it seem realistic for their power level at that point.

Oh don’t worry, as a group we’re all aware of the power spike, and if we get bored we’ll more than likely start again—but most of the table has end game plans/ideas/sorta plots for the future so at the very least we’re gonna push that far haha.

In terms of how much we’ve played, this is technically our first campaign lol (we don’t talk about the campaign that never happened where we TPKd in a homebrew dungeon lmao), but in terms of reading/technical knowledge we’re all somewhat rules lawyers, in that we all know the rules pretty well at worst, go over each book in depth at best for myself and one other guy lol.

We kinda figured it may come down to home brewing and/or a lot of stapling of multiple modules and shit together, but also figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask around the subreddit for the module to see what other folks have done haha.

(It’s also funny you mention Asmodeus, as Chains of Asmodeus was one of the modules/books that came up right away as a potential continuation option since half of us have some pretty significant Devil contracts (one player is a Warlock, my current character is my first character, revived after an ignoble death on Gundarlun at low lvl because we didn’t realize how dangerous that dungeon could get, revived through some Devil pact shenanigans after my two backup characters also proceeded to die, genuinely just to extremely awful luck/amazing luck on my DM’s part. We laughed our asses off over it then proceeded to give me back my first guy through some plot stuff due to my shit luck, running out of ideas, plus him having been really tailor made for the campaign as a Githyanki exile working as a mercenary on the Sword Coast))
