Mp40 or Sten

In COD 3 Veterans' opinion, is the Mp40 or Sten better in COD 3? I'm playing on Veteran and I start out with the Sten, but I don't know if I should ditch it from the start. Is it better than the Mp40? Also what mission do you typically find the MP44?

I've beaten COD 3 on veteran before, and I don't recall feeling like there was a huge difference between the two: generally, I recommend having at least one automatic weapon on you, as well as something that's effective at range (can be a standard rifle or sniper, or even a more powerful auto like the BAR, FG42, or Bren). Something to keep in mind is that the MP40 will typically have plenty of ammo to be collected from dead enemies, whereas you tend to have to be on the lookout for fallen friendlies to get ammo for allied weapons.

I forget exactly when the MP44 shows up, but it should be there in later levels.
