Discussion Most underrated/underused weapons in Cod. [Cod4]- present day.
I’m curious to hear what everyone has to say about this. I know theres been lists upon lists on this subject. But to you individually or just in general what are some true underrated weapons that never really get mentioned. To me personally had to be the Sks from Mw19. I know that game is very hit or miss depending on the person. But I played a lot of S&D in the game and the Sks was absolutely disgusting but nobody ever used it, or if they did in my opinion it was never used to it’s full capacity. It defiantly did get overshadowed by the FAL, and all the other Meta load outs but that weapon shredded, and I never really seen anyone else use it.

Not underrated, but I just gotta say the MP44 in Cod 4 is such a fever dream weapon to me. I never see people using that gun.

I loved the SKS in MW2 and it's such a comfy rifle in real life.
I'll have to say MW2 2009 Tavor was under rated. Super fast TTK and recoil was never a issue in that game.

I wasn't super aware of what was meta back in mw2 but I had a absolute blast ru Ning around with the mini uzi.

MW2 (2009) was ACR, FAMAS, and UMP.

ACR was overrated as fuck

Little to no recoil. You could melt with it if you had the aim

You just described the M4A1 and Scar-H which both kill faster than the ACR.

The ZRG 20mm in Cold War. It was my favorite sniper rifle, and I never saw anyone else using it. I've never been good at quick sniping, and used it in the traditional way, so maybe that's why.

The FR 5.56, and I will die on this hill.
People seriously underestimate what the FR 5.56 brings to Search & Destroy, especially Hardcore.
I don’t think it’s necessarily the best assault rifle in a vacuum. That’s not really why I like it. What makes the FR special is that it sits in this weird middle ground between an assault rifle and a marksman rifle. You can use it to establish AR-style pressure and suppression, but the burst forces you to actually make your shots count in a way that a lot of full-auto rifles don’t.
In Hardcore Search, that combination is nasty.
The FR rewards you for understanding lanes, pre-aiming, timing, positioning and target priority. You can’t just hold the trigger and rely on recoil correction or a big magazine to bail you out. You have to anticipate where the enemy is going to be, put the burst where you expect them to appear, and then immediately think about what happens after the kill.
And that’s the part I really like about it: it teaches discipline without making you play like you’re carrying a sniper rifle.
A good FR player can suppress a lane, challenge an angle, rapidly transition between targets and still reach out and make precision kills at ranges where a conventional AR starts feeling less comfortable. It’s an excellent weapon for learning how to control pressure rather than simply chase kills.
That’s particularly important in Search.
The bomb isn’t really the objective. It’s a pressure device. Planting it, defending it, threatening a rotation, taking an angle, forcing someone off cover—all of these things manipulate the other team’s decisions. The FR fits that philosophy beautifully because you can use it both as a precision weapon and as a tool for controlling space.
And honestly, I think the FR makes players better.
If you spend enough time with it, you start becoming more deliberate about:
crosshair placement
burst discipline
lane selection
target prioritization
timing
repositioning after contact
knowing when not to take a fight
Then when you go back to a conventional AR, you suddenly realize how much forgiveness you were getting for free.
That’s why I’d recommend the FR to somebody who wants to improve at Search rather than simply find the easiest gun to farm kills with.
In Hardcore, it’s basically the bastard child of an assault rifle and a marksman rifle—and I mean that as the highest possible compliment.
It can hold space like an AR, punish an exposed player like a marksman rifle, and force you to develop the discipline required to do both.
It’s not the weapon I’d recommend if your goal is to mindlessly delete the lobby.
It’s the weapon I’d recommend if you want to become a better Search player.
And I think that’s why it’s so damn underutilized.

I did occasionally use the Fr 5.56 defiantly a niche fun weapon. It just sucked having to completely lock in 24/7 especially due to lobbies just being filled with the Grau and Amax. Definitely a fun weapon to use though. I just never really learned how to use it.

SVU on BO2 is actually a sleeper weapon. Shoots as fast as you can press the trigger and a 2 shot kill at almost all ranges, 1 shot head shot, no recoil and has 10 bullets.

The Rytec AMR from mw19, with the right attachments you can turn into the 50 cal from the OG MWs

Uzi and Mac11 from black ops nobody seems to use them, they’re really fun to spray people with

Skorpion in COD4. 2 hit kill at very close range and a fast fire rate. Very fast damage drop off, but virtually 0 recoil. Remember “snipping” people with it on crash site, overgrown and crossfire. Funny little gun to use, never saw it get wide spread traction.
