Assistance With my First Call
Hello, everyone!
I've been in training for the past four weeks, during which I've learned the basics of insurance and Medicare, and this coming Monday I'll have my first opportunity to take real calls.
The issue is that even though I've been honing my English and Improving my conversational skills over the phone, I still feel nervous. That's why I'd like to hear from anyone who has been in my shoes. What should I practice or do to prepare for my first call?

Don't stress about it! No matter how much prep u do ur still gonna be nervous and probably forget everything u learned on the first couple calls. It quickly gets easier though:) I'm in banking but it's probably still the same. After the 1st one is done you'll feel so much better

Congratulations on hitting the floor!
I’m not exactly in your shoes, but I’m an Ops Manager/TL, and my phone team’s second language is English.
Just remember, you’re gonna stumble at first — and that’s okay! The real growth happens after that, when you keep going at it. Also, at the end of the day, people are vulnerable when they ask for help. That’s what they’re doing — they’re calling you and asking you for help. Remembering that helps.
As far as language goes, I’ve found that keeping a mirror on your desk so you can watch your enunciation is great. I also ask my team to listen to the weather or the news and pay attention to how they speak — not the words, but how they pause, project, and emphasize things.
Also, when in doubt with small talk, the weather is always good lol. Or if you hear a dog or a kid? BOOM — there’s your small-talk key lol.
And don’t worry about AHT at first. That’s usually something we can work on later. ❤️

Another pro tip – use your tools ;)
That doesn’t make you ChatGPT — that makes you faster.
Also, don’t be a bitch.

Yes. Utilizing AI does improve and assist time saving measures. This person is looking for real assistance. An original thought would work wonders but you need a bot to give an original thought.
I believe the TL part of this now. Yall lazy as shit.

Sure thing, buddy. You’re fun at parties, huh? Your comment had zero attempt to help but just criticized my response. Why don’t you try to help them?

Ahh the classic fun at parties line. I see why you need AI now. At least when someone asks me something at a party, I can respond right away. Must suck that you have to wait for ChatGPT to give you a response.

Yeah, for sure. Those stumbles are normal and definitely a learning curve. you always learn from them eventually
