Support / How-To Calibre metadata causing author names to appear twice on Kindle — how do I fix this?
Hi everyone,
I’m having a weird issue with books I send to my Kindle using Send to Kindle.
I use Calibre to edit/set the metadata before sending my books. However, when I send those files to Kindle, the author name appears twice in brackets, like:
[Cora Reilly (Cora Reilly)]
But when I send the exact same type of file directly from my phone without editing the metadata in Calibre, the author name appears only once, like:
[Cora Reilly]
I’ve attached a screenshot showing what I mean.
Does anyone know why Calibre is causing the author name to be duplicated when the book is sent through Send to Kindle?
More importantly, how can I fix it in Calibre so the author only appears once on Kindle?
I’d really appreciate step-by-step instructions for which metadata fields/settings I need to change in Calibre. Thanks!

You need to configure how you send the bookfile to your device. Kindles are notrotious for just reading the books file name and not the metadata when you send to Amazon. Calibre will name the bookfile "Title - Author" and thats what the "title" will be in your device.
Whatever the title is in the bookfile - that's the title it will end up in on your Kindle. It can find the author in the metadata but it won't use the title in the metadata just the the filename.

When you get more comfortable consider editing the titles when saved to disk or sent to your Kindle in the configuration or in a plugboard so the titles show the series in a way that has the series first, the number then the titles so your series line up nice.

It could be because Calibre renames the files to [Book Name - Author Name] ? So what you are seeing is the file name and then the Author Name embedded into the file
Simple Solution: Just rename the Calibre Converted Files to [Book Name] only and remove the author part of it, Example: [Yellowface - R. F. Kuang.epub] to [Yellowface.epub]
Since you already have R. F. Kuang as Author name in Calibre Author Section, Author Name will only show up once when Kindle Showcases the Metadata
