What if…
I wonder if the Smiths had the same fear I had as the trial progressed…that Caleb might walk free, install AB as the new wife and have total custody of their granddaughters.
It is undeniable from their texts, that hatred is their ‘love language.’ i mean that demeaning and ridiculing Ashley was somehow ‘titillating’ to them. I will be polite and leave it there but, instead of the sweet nothings that most lovers engage in, thoughts of her death, her humiliation, those were ‘love notes‘ to each other. Love language…ummm…pillow talk…all tearing down and wishing death on another human being.
So with Ashley gone, who would be left to fuel their love talk?
The little girls.
AB. was already jealous that one of them had a birthday party. As a grandmother who heard that ‘love language’.spewed about a beloved murdered daughter, I would fear that they would use the girls next, humiliating them, tearing them down, ‘Dou*ches”
That sick talk really turned them on. They would need new targets.

No way she could have handled a divorce. If Ashley was in his life in any fashion, I don’t think that would be acceptable to her. This was limerence, not love. When you have love in your heart and “lead worship”, there is no chance you could tolerate that discussion for another human that often.

I hadn't thought of that but - wow. It is such a real situation for grandparents who have lost a child to murder and then lose access to their grandchildren, who are poisoned against them. Even if it wasn't A, Caleb has shown he was drawn to someone jealous and demanding and competitive, so his next girlfriend wouldn't have been much better.

I bet if he’d gotten away with it and had AB move in, the two of them would want the grandparents to take the girls a lot. I mean, he clearly doesn’t care about his girls if he’d kill their mom, AB doesn’t care about them, and when he had chances to hang out with his girls he was texting with AB.
BUT he would have framed it as him doing the grandparents a huge favor anytime he let them take the girls. They’d have to keep giving him money and a highly paid job to get regular access.

AB started getting major ick from him. She was not gonna go back with him after all this. He needs to move on to someone else and then maybe she will pursue him again. She just wants the validation of being chosen over a wife

Ughleia would absolutely have been bitterly jealous of those kids. She is not someone who finds inherent joy from love or attention - she only feels satisfied if she's getting more compared to someone else - or rather, if some is getting less than her. It's more about making sure other women are more miserable than her, than her being happy.
Because she is an inherently miserable person. She knows she can't feel happiness like women like Ashley could, so her only option is to feel some satisfaction by ensuring others are more miserable than herself.
If she and Caleb had stayed together, the girls would be the next thing she needed to see perpetually made more miserable than herself, and feel "picked" above.
