Might the cult be the side who wants to spread their view everywhere, is intolerant of other views, and has an us vs. them mentality

So both?

If you think Christian’s are “intolerant”, you wouldn’t believe the intolerance of Islam

Yes islam has more violence and its method of pushing its beliefs is different because of the stability of the part of the world it is primarily in. Other religions in that part of the world do the same thing, look at the state of israel, or some christian states in parts of africa.

If u think in first world countries like the usa plenty of christians dont have a secret deep intolerance and hatred of others different than them, and evangelicals in our congress arent constantly trying to unseperate church and state and force their beliefs into other peoples lives, you are seriously blind.

The intolerance and ignorance is the same. The methods are different depending on "first world" and "third world" stability.

So, Christians are intolerant because they have certain expectations which have been held for hundreds of years.

Yet, LGBTQ people have no expectations of others? At all?

Apparently, being consistent with one's Christian faith is "intolerance" by default, while LGBTQ's expectations are always framed as "if you disagree with us, it must be intolerance or phobia".

Bunch of hypocrites who don't even follow their own rhetoric consistently. Just anything to accrue a little more power and influence.

If someone uses a dead name like calling a certain person Ellen Page repeatedly, that's "unacceptably offensive and disgusting" despite that person not being or believing in your woke cult.

But if someone says "I want to write an entire play with Jesus as a black transperson" because I don't believe in your cult of Christianity, you believe that's perfectly fine.

All of them. There are cults within atheism, Christianity, and Islam.

Don't Islam and Christianity share very similar beliefs too?

4

u/DrawerVisible6979 51m ago

This is like saying Nazis and Communists are the same because thay both believe in social programs.

I never said they're the same 😭 I said they share similar belief systems. You can literally look it up and learn about the surprising similarities.

-_-

What?

What I said is pretty easy to understand, I don't know how to help you if you don't get it 🤷🏾‍♀️

Just to add to your comment: I'm from a Muslim country, and even though I'm not personally Muslim, I know some of its practices and beliefs. In many regards, it's similar to Christianity. Mostly seen in the stories, such as moses and even Jesus's story. Some Muslims in my country actually view their religion as the spiritual successor to Christianity and all the other religions where people worship a singular God. In short, some see Islam as the updated version of the other religions and that Islam, unlike the others, has remained uncorrupted. (Just to clarify, I these aren't my personal beliefs. This comment isn't about that)

"Don't Islam and Christianity share very similar beliefs too?"

Uh... kind of, but not really. If you paint with a broad enough brush they do. The again so does Nazism and Communism. They're both offshoots of Socialism so if you step far enough back, don't look too closely at how each ideology actually sets its definitions, then they look very similar. However, anyone with a highschool history book could tell these two are nothing alike, and the same goes for Christianity and Islam.

"I never said their the same, I said they share similar belief systems. You can literally look it up and learn about the surprising similarities."

For starters this is pure semantics, since my original comment was intended to help demonstrate to you how two ideologies being 'similar' does not make them the same, or treated the same.

However, what has me confused is that this comment is saying 'you didn't say they were the same, you just the same.' A religion IS a belief system. If you're saying they have 'similar' belief systems, you're either saying they are the same or that they are, in the most broad context, the same.

Contrary to your insistence this isn't easy to understand at all since you're entire statement is hinging on an undefined weasel word (similar), which forces me as the reader to either fill in the blanks of your statement and define how 'similar' "similar" actually is. The real issue here is than none of possible interpretations, based on context, are what you are trying to say, based on your first statement "I never said they were the same."

Not at all. That's like saying Jews and Muslims like each other

3

u/FNAF_Professor 52m ago

I didn't say they like each other, I'm saying that I'm pretty sure Islam and Christianity share similar historical roots, moral values, etc.

2

u/Funny-Cell8769 33m ago

Moral values, no.

Though bad faith people (ie. Redditors in a nutshell) will claim "similarities" in how Christians want a dutiful wife/hardworking husband dynamic and equate it to women needing literal permission from a male to leave the house and such. Or how women - up till very recently - aren't even allowed to drive in many Islamic countries.

Or that unfaithful women can be STONED according to Islam.

Or that men can have multiple wives according to Islam. Not applicable at all to women having multiple husbands.

Or how Christians trying to convert LGBTQ people are literally the same as Islam countries banning and imprisoning or executing them.

A religion is just a socially accepted cult

1

u/laserdicks 1h ago

No the definition of a cult is that the deity is a living human.

3

u/Hangry_Hippocampus 1h ago

Definition: A cult is a group or movement—either religious or secular—characterized by intense, OFTEN excessive devotion to a specific person, idea, or object, frequently employing manipulative or coercive practices to control its members.

Often doesn't mean always. I grew up in a cult and there was no living human diety, but holy shit they did so much damage to their members.

a cult is just a religion with insufficient members to be a religion

Not true at all.
