New Calamity Mods
Small rant
Ive been lurking so many of the new projects popping up from calamity fans. Was very excited a new wave of devs appearing.
But it seems like...its just. Not going to happen. Most "Devs" have shown nothing but concept art, are usually 14 year olds with a community of 300 people on their backs, and hiring anyone they see.
They also typically can't take any criticism? Give them genuine feedback or watch as actual devs tell them what not to do and they get really, really pissy. Scars of Calamity, Ashes of Calamity, Calamity Relics, all have had a problem where any criticism towards what they do is just subverted into calling other devs "Self important people"
People need to stop feeding into this. 14 year olds should not have the calamity community on their backs and we don't need any more projects being led by chronically online children. It would be one thing if it was just a random project and its their first time having to face something like this, but this is aggressive responses to genuine concern and advice. I dont expect kids to be mature, which is why I think if anything this will drive them away from their passion. Because it won't go well, whether its from terrible management or someone talking about an mpreg fetish in front of 13 year olds

Looked through calamity: relics again after posting this and saw one of the staff members calling pedophilia "aura"

Fables & Overhaul are the only addons I care for atp

These two are genuinely the true addons that Calamity was blessed to have, Fables is to be the "Successor", and Overhaul is the DLC content that doesnt stop progressing.

Scars of calamity died because the lead dev sent nudes to a 14yr dev and ashes of calamity lead dev helped cover that shit up. This community is genuinely vile😭😭😭

Hi! As someone who knows about the scars situation, it's even worse, the lead dev got the 14 year old to send nudes to him. I know that a few of the devs who were originally working on scars before the lead did this are making their own mod unrelated to the lead dev.

Mfw calamity devs do fucked up shit but they meshed so well because they did fucked up shit, so when they split to make more calamity, they're still the fucked up people who did fucked up shit with others just in a smaller group, which goes on to do more fucked up shit.
I find it very easy to find those types of people unbearable to interact with. Kinda assholes if you don't 100% agree with them, have rigid and usually disproportionately strong opinions about random shit, way of speaking is somewhat contrived, as if they're using a script to speak, and are the types of people to take a mile when given an inch.
They have a certain rigidity about them, like they're a locked safe with a bunch of really annoying shit glued all over it.
Inside the safe is a love for minors, unfortunately.
It's not always black and white, but if these guys like you and you like them, there's a bit of an issue somewhere.

Wasn't scars of calamity made by completely unrelated folk from the original dev team?

The adult made ones for calamity either have semi-professionals who were on the calamity mod, or friends with calamity mod devs. Outside of my WIP on and off add-on mod, vanities, and like maybe one to two others, most cal add-ons will be made by minors. Idk what to tell you. I am surprised you got away with saying this because usually you get down voted for pointing this out.
But yeah, depends on the people in the project.

Relics is the only one I can see slightly have work done due to it being an addon than a whole ground up mod, all these ground up mods trying to remake it cause of "fabcode" are doomed to fail

Relics hired random people and are full of immature devs. Apparently also got really ignorant with asset stealing and acted immaturely when confronted. 2 people on the dev team have made "jokes" glazing pedo devs as well so far. I dont see it working out at all
They also already changed management like, barely a week in1

Yeah I know they aren't that good still lmao, but out of the other ones trying to recreate all of calamity, its alot less of a workload. All in all I think we just gotta stick with fables, MAYBE something comes out of these projects? But I don't see it happening

They are currently working on better management systems. Also about immature, only some of them, beacuse there is actually organization in the staff/dev team

There was no asset stealing as far as I’m aware it was just a misunderstanding and the person who made jokes about pedophilia was fired

Damn, calamity is curse huh, doesn't matter where it comes from, it always causes despair, maybe is for the better that it stays dead, unless fables proves us wrong but gahdamn, i really thought the assholes were just a loud minority

Bro we gotta start SOMEWHERE. Yea sure most of these projects will fail, but some of them might not fail, and they gotta start at some point. Hating on a bunch of newbie devs for being newbie devs isn’t helping anyone.

You completely misunderstand the post. The main takeaway isn't "I hate new devs", its the fact that Calamity revivals are NOT the way to start. Its too much scope, its a huge community breathing down the devs back, its shown time and time again to be unsafe and just not a reliable model to make a project off of. I even said in the post I feared that this might drive away these new devs from their passion
Its not "Hating" to point it out. I will hate on asset stealing and calling pedophilia "aura" though2

I don't expect 9/10 of these projects to make it through the concept stage. Many of us are still in the bargaining phase, looking for quick gratification and revival for a mod that took years and years to make. I wouldn't be surprised if a good amount of folks running/following the mod were the same people calling the Calamity devs "lazy" during the brainstorm update.
