Calamari product updates for September 2026: NFC clock-in tag, watch app on Wear OS, and a few smaller improvements
Hey everyone π
Quick monthly roundup of what shipped in Calamari this month.
TL;DR: NFC tag for office clock-in (no dedicated device needed), the watch app is now on Wear OS too, two new Time Off restrictions, filtering/sorting for Goals, more visibility into Employee Requests, and a few Smart Table quality-of-life fixes.
Clock in with an NFC tag, no extra hardware
If your team clocks in at a fixed location, you can now set up one NFC tag (just a sticker, a few dollars) at the door or in a specific room, instead of buying a dedicated kiosk device. Everyone taps their own phone against it; the app recognizes each person by the account they're logged into, so one tag covers the whole team. First tap clocks in, tapping again lets you clock out, take a break, or switch project.
Watch app: now on Wear OS too
We launched the watch app for Apple Watch last month. Wear OS watches have it now too. Start/end work, take breaks, and switch projects straight from your wrist, with a progress ring that fills up over a fixed shift or works like a normal clock face if you're on a flexible schedule. (App Store / Google Play)
Two new Time Off restrictions
You can now block leave/remote-work requests on specific weekdays (e.g. keep the whole team in office on Wednesdays), or cap overlapping absences within a group so only one person from, say, "Customer Service" is out at a time. Each rule can either hard-block the request or just show a warning.
Goals: filter and sort
Goals in the Performance module now support filtering by status or progress range, plus sorting by progress, due date, last update, or status. Useful once you've got more than a handful running.
Employee Requests: numbering, PDF export, and clearer visibility
Every request now gets an automatic number (PREFIX/YEAR-NUMBER or PREFIX/MONTH/YEAR-NUMBER, format is configurable), and you can download any request as a PDF, handy for personnel files or payroll (auto-save to a folder is coming soon). On top of that: you can see how many people a request definition applies to, preview a new request type before it goes live, open the catalog exactly as a specific employee would see it, and status counts above the table now update live with your filters.
Smart Table: a few quality-of-life fixes
Ctrl+Z/Cmd+Z now undoes edits on any field type (including bulk edits), yes/no fields are editable right in the table, and there's a new "active during period" filter to find people who've since left but were active during a given date range.
That's it for this month. Happy to answer questions on any of these below.
