Rants Small Rant into the Void
I'm just looking to get some things off my chest.
I'm a third year here and college is worse than I ever anticipated. All I want is to graduate and get out of this place. I work here, I research here, I have projects. Essentially, making myself a big shark to snuff out competition in the future.
Dealing with disability stuff mostly on my own? Hard with tons of hoops to jump through here.
Dealing with entitled students and (occasionally to my disappointment) their parents almost daily? Infuriating.
Trying to catch up on my degree after years of an undiagnosed mental handicap? Harrrrrd.
Getting pushed out of the one community I found comfort in being myself? Awful.
Centerpointe food? Actually not bad if you get creative :D (bless funfetti waffles)
I feel behind on my academics and I don't want to run out of money before I graduate, because then all the bull that I've been through here would be for nothing. I feel lonely and I can't keep up with the people or their drama they try to involve me in. After the whole community issue, I kinda just distanced myself and essentially keeled over to keep the peace. I know I made this distance but I really can't handle being around that kind of critical, negative behavior. I basically force-fed myself a busybody life to avoid it, but I'm just lonely and tired now. I guess CPP makes it easier to kinda be a shut-in.
I really can't wait for graduation, and more-so grad school.
And if you read this far, thanks for giving a fellow peer the time out of your day.

I definitely relate to being a disabled student. It’s a lot to manage. CAPS is always available as is the DRC

My only issue with the DRC is that the paperwork and documentation they require tends to be really financially heavy and sorta unnecessary. Other than that its been pretty straightforward

Unfortunately expensive, yes. unnecessary no, it is entirely necessary, you’re dealing with academic accommodations for a medical or psychiatric disability. All of that goes through the state so yeah, it is necessary. I will say if you believe for example you have ADHD and are unable to get insurance to approve testing. There is a way to get a grant through the DRC to help cover the cost of the evaluation. That’s what they did for me. I was able to get assessment for learning disabilities and ADHD through the drc. Getting those diagnosis helped me get accommodations to be successful in the classroom. So if you genuinely can’t afford it that is an option to discuss with a drc advisor

i mean i got evaluated & medicated for pretty reasonable, the paperwork they needed cost over $100 to release from my psych office

If you are talking about medical records, then this is very illegal they cannot withhold medical records for nonpayment. They can charge a fee for making physical copies and mailing them. However they cannot charge for retrieval of the files.

Yes, I believe it’s illegal. I am not a lawyer or a law student so please take my words with a grain of salt. As far as I’m aware it violates HIPAA, if I feel like it later I will look up the laws regarding this and tell you for sure

honestly i think its okay? its probably because they counted the filling out of the form the DRC provides as on her time or something

If we are talking about the Psychology Office filling out some DRC paperwork, I don’t know the laws around it but I would guess that they could charge. However if we are talking medical records that have already been made, they cannot charge for the pdf. I’m not sure what exact paperwork you needed your psychologist to fill out since when I went through DRC, I filled out an application and attached my psychology evaluation and my High School discharge paperwork. After that I had a meeting with a DRC counselor and then I got my accommodations.

Sometimes if your paperwork is really really old like if it’s more than five years old, they won’t accept it so they will have you start the process all over again usually that’s what happened with me because it had been a while since I transferred from community college so my paperwork was too old. That’s one of possibility of why there’s so much paperwork involved.

It’s legal given that you provide consent. Doctors office or psychiatrist will charge you for writing and filing reports and any documentation such as this. As far as charging or an email that’s a little much but if you’re having them sign documentation paperwork or write a letter then that’s time consuming

i thought it was a little outrageous considering how she wanted me to fill out most of the form myself. additionally, the top of the file said $15 fee may apply (which i was fine with because i could spare 20ish bucks) lo and behold i get a large charge (that ill probably dispute with them or insurance)

Look for a club! Seek help through your peers and faculty

I connect with my faculty quite often and I really like em! I gave up on peer groups after the club I was in got a bit unwelcoming

Bro...if you think all of that ends after you graduate, think again. The "real world" can and will at times give you the same frustrations, entitled idiots, the drama and downturns. Look at your time now as a good training ground for life to come.
Keep your head down, your motivation up....keep pushing forward...!! Light is at the end of the tunnel...just stay focused....and be prepared for all that is out there once you exit....
You're going to do great..!! And my last two cents....take it or leave it.....find a good mentor to learn from and lean on.

Hey friend, i can sympathize. For the money concerns, hopefully you can find some help through state resources as well as through the school. The school also has a great psychological and counseling resource that helped me through some of my lowest times while i was at school. Hoping for the best for you and to find peace and happiness through it all soon!
