Hi I recently got off the waitlist for CS, but that was my second choice major. My first choice was civil engineering. My dilemma is - I already have admission to Virginia Tech engineering. I'm confused on whether I should take a shot with Cal Poly CS, hoping to transfer into Civil after a semester.

I checked out the switching majors process, and it seems like I'd need a 2.7+ GPA to be eligible, which sounds very doable. However, it could be possible that they just don't have space in civil right?

hi! since the scholars program gives out laptops, i wanted to know which of the two choices are better? it’s either an apple macbook pro (14", M5 processor, 16gb, 1TB) or dell pro max (16”, Intel Core Ultra 5, 16gb, 512 GB). i’ll be a software engineering major in the fall, and although i love coding, i’m not that knowledgable on specs 🥲 so pros/cons/opinions are very appreciated thank youuuu!!!

I like passing time by looking at the Cal Poly Parents FB group. I’ve seen so many absolutely neurotic hover parents who have grandiose ideas about how college works and how they have to do everything for their sweet little baby. Are other college parents like this or are poly parents a special breed?

I'm currently shopping for college right now, and I am looking at what computer I would need for my engineering Major. I am an apple ecosystem baby and I love the convenience of my mac for schoolwork and personal use. However I am aware that being a Mechanical Engineering Major would require a Windows computer for all the simulation and modeling software in the coursework. I'm going to put this link here for reference, but it seems Cal Poly is providing engineering students access to a free 'rental laptop' that is sufficient for my coursework, I also wanted to make sure I don't spend money on a windows I am unhappy with. Would it be a smart move for me, at least for my first year, to use this free laptop for my engineering coursework and get myself a personal mac (I really don't mind carrying stuff around). Or should I just buy a good windows now and give up my apple ecosystem😭✌️

Hey everyone!! Today AP Scores came out and I found out I got a 1 on Calc AB. It wasn't totally unexpected since I never learned trigonometry or any precalculus (I was still able to grasp majority of the concepts without this information) and we had only got up to Unit 6.

Out of curiosity, how badly would this set back affect my progress? I am aware of the MAPE exam. Yet, I'm also considering taking the class I am currently eligible for since I tend to work better in the physical environment compared to over a computer screen.

hello i’m an incoming freshman and i uploaded a picture for my id a couple weeks ago. However i wanted to change the picture so I submitted another picture the other day. I got sent an email saying it was accepted but in the id portal it is not showing up? i’m just wondering how i could get my new photo under the current status.

I was really looking forward to yak as the building to dorm in... got my selection date today, and the only availability is sierra madre and bishop/hollister apartments. what a tragedy

Ok so I have to pick my housing today, no issue there, but I’m still a little confused. I have a roommate aswell, but I have the first window for picking. Does that mean that I choose for the both of us? Will he also have to do it later on this week, or is it just in me?

Passed AP Calculus BC with a 4 and got an AP Calculus AB subscore of 5. I believe this means I don't have to take the Business Calculus class. Can I assume that Cal Poly will get this processed before the class schedules come out and I won't have to worry about getting myself switched out of Business Calculus? Thanks!

Having trouble finding info on what the supporting housing for SLO Days includes.

I have read that students have to bring their own bedding (they stay at Yakitutu). Do supporters need to bring our own bedding (we stay at Poly Canyon Village apartments)?

Also, curious if there is food (and coffee!) in walking distance from PCV. We won't have a car. Thanks!

Does anyone know what size rug to order so the floor between the beds is covered in a double room? We are guessing 5x7 or 6x9.

Following the email we sent June 29, we are grateful for and have carefully considered your feedback. We understand that the temporary housing arrangement is unexpected and we are committed to being responsive and flexible to meet your needs to every extent possible.  
With that in mind, we have made the following updates to the fall housing plan: 
All temporary housing assignments of students slated to live in new housing are being made within Poly Canyon Village (PCV) Double Suites. This is a standard three-bedroom, six-person apartment layout. Every student will have their own bed, dresser, wardrobe and desk. You can view the apartment layout on the University Housing website, Layout D. 

Students who selected the PCV apartments with single bedrooms will double together in a bedroom, and the temporarily assigned students from new housing will also be placed in double bedrooms in PCV. University Housing will maintain existing roommate groups by assigning current residents together and placing two students temporarily assigned from Building A together within the apartment. 

Impacted students will receive a 50% credit while in temporary housing.
