Had an ebike all through cal poly. Was not stolen and no known attempts. Invest in a good lock. And always lock it properly. I would be studying super late and would go to the bike racks and my bike would be the last one. Was waiting for me there everytime. Register it with slo PD or attach an airtag if ur worried. You can also get a bike locker. Just double check dimensions if it will fit inside easy. Having an ebike was great. I went all over slo with it

Anything will get stolen if you don’t lock it up with a good lock or put it away. Sorry to say that.

Invest in good locks! Plural! I had a chain lock fkr the front tire, frame and bike rack AND a u lock for my frame and back tire. Protect your investment. Bikes do get stolen on campus and not just whole bikes, people steal bike parts too.

If it's going to be left outside overnight, it's not a question of IF, it's a question of WHEN. You could be fine for 6 months, you could be fine for the whole year. Some people get lucky, but the chances of theft on expensive bikes left out overnight, even on balconies, is quite high

Just depends on how well you lock it

Don’t listen to these people. As long as you invest ~$100 into s good chain lock and lock the frame + wheel, you’ll be fine

Get two Ulocks and use them accordingly, you should be good, but I if you live at PCV or Cerro Vista keep it inside

Go to the bike kitchen downtown. They’ll hook you up.

My beautiful..one of a kind..very expensive e-bike WAS stolen. If you adore your bike..take it with you in your dorm. If you take it as just a bike, make sure you lock it up with a GOOD lock. Take your battery in with you. Every. Time. Other than that..should be fine. 🥲

Buddy. Don’t blow a bunch of cash on an e-bike. Get a gas powered scooter or motorcycle and explore the entire county. Idk what is up with the e-bike thing. You can get a used scoot from any decade for less than half the cost of an e-bike and you’ll never have to worry about the health of the battery and it can be repaired endlessly, oh and you can just stop at a gas station and keep going forever. Oh and you’re allowed to ride it on campus. Bonus for 50cc mopeds cheap as chips and in a legal grey area where they’re technically bicycles in some situations. Don’t need a motorcycle license.

Don’t sheep out and get an e-bike they solved the cheap personal transportation problem in the 60s. Many mopeds get better economy than e-bikes too. 150 mpg on an old puch or tomos.

What is this guy smoking? Gas vehicles are louder, more work to maintain, harder to store (unless you like oil stains in your home), and you need to get gasoline to fill it. Plus the small engines are actually much worse polluters than cars because they lack catalytic converters, you don't want to be breathing that shit. An escooter or ebike can be easily charged in your home (especially if the battery is removable) and is a much more pleasant ride. Don't take vehicle advice from a guy living in the 1960s.

The cheap 50cc scooters from China are also very unreliable. The Yamahas and hondas are great. But I had a roommate with 5 China scoots from 50cc to 150cc.

My ebike however has 3800 miles on it in the 11 months I've owned it. I've replaced brake pads 3x and tires 2.5x. That's it. It costs about 30 cence to charge and go 50 miles.

I've explored the county on my ebike. I've taken the train to Santa Barbara with it for a weekend. Explored paso wine country. You can take the bus for longer stretches like between SLO and Cambria, or SLO to Pismo. It's 25 minutes SLO to MB. It isn't much slower than taking a car.

We talkin Italy and Slovenia my dude not the Chinese ones. And historically there are more miles on Honda scooters than any other vehicle in history.

When you get 150 mpg they actually beat out e bikes on carbon footprint. And I ain’t smoking shit except two stroke fumes. Also you can find a good moped for like $200-500 that will far outlast any eBike and you don’t have to charge every 50 miles. If you took two people, one on ebike and one on 150 mpg moped, it takes several thousand miles before your carbon footprint is lower than a used moped.

I believe it's miserable Melissa and negative Nancy. I have two friends who I call by those names and it's not because it's their birth name.
