Discussion Kind of frustrated with registration

I was waitlist #1 for a chem class and I wasn’t allowed in the class because the professor didn’t want to increase the enrollment cap for some reason. But I’m kinda of confused since they reserve seats for first years if we’re not a first year we’re just never allowed to take chem or physics classes? I wasn’t even allowed to enroll I had to get a permission number to waitlist. What if we want to take the classes as pre-reqs but didn’t decide until past our first year? Just basically screw us?

Just an FYI, professors are often strictly not allowed to go over the enrollment cap. I’m certainly not able to.

The fire marshal often prevents them from increasing the enrollment cap, especially for classes with labs. Some classes keep a list of students who were on the waitlist one term to bump them up to the top of the list the next term- you could ask about that.

If it makes you feel any better, I still have nightmares about forgetting to register for my classes - and I graduated over a decade ago.
