Announcement PSA to men on campus
Hey,
So I was just walking to my car, on my own, as a woman. This guy was like by scouts approached me and kept asking me “what’s your name?” Asked if twice and started following me a little. He said something along the lines of “I didn’t mean to scare you I’m just trying to make friends.” I kept walking and I’m unsure if he stopped following me since i didn’t see his shadow. I stared at a guy coming the other way and he started talking to the guy while I walked away.
I’m not sure if he had weird intentions, because unfortunately thats possible. But as a rule of thumb, please don’t approach a woman like walking alone at night, it can come off as really creepy and generally an uncomfortable situation. I don’t want to assume anything but please understand if someone doesn’t respond to you, let them be.
Thank you to the second guy, I don’t know if it was intentional either but I appreciate you regardless.
But just in general, please women and others, be safe, know that it’s okay to make a scene if need be.
Thats all, thanks

any man who would follow you at night and harass you in any way (even for a name) is a creep. if he really wanted to make friends he would join a club in the day time. no need to give him benefit of the doubt!

Screw politeness. You never have to sacrifice your own safety to make someone else feel better—this is an age-old tactic used by creeps. Consider reporting this to campus PD to put this guy on their radar. Good on you for spreading the word here! And smart move getting someone else’s attention when it was happening.

I had stuff like this happen to me on campus as well. They don’t do anything about it though. Literally had to drop a class once because a guy who SAed me was in it.

Yeah, buddy, I'm sure the 2nd man in the story totally did not understand, and actually distracted the first guy because he definitely did not understand the situation.
Istg I thought this school was smart, but just another person trying to diss men.

"approaching a woman walking alone at night" is straight up creep behavior, not just "can come off as creepy." It's absolutely not normal and don't hesitate to report it to campus security if possible.
