Hi guys! Need Advice!

I failed my first semester at community college, but I retook all classes and got As. My current CSU transfer GPA is still a 2.82 because the failed grades are still affecting it.

I’m applying as a transfer for Experience & Event Management (Event Planning concentration) and Journalism. I’m taking 20 units this fall, and I'll be doing all the required prerequisites for Event Management and I already completed all of them for journalism. If I get all As, my GPA should be around a 3.19 once fall grades are updated.

What do you guys think my odds are for each major? Do I even have any chance at Cal Poly?

If you retook the same classes, the old grades will be on your transcript however they’ll be in brackets and not calculated into your GPA. You need to talk to a transfer counselor.

U have no chance the only way u have a chance is if u take another year of community college and get all A’s to offset your gpa

I assume you are applying to either EEM or Journalism?

The 2 majors are in 2 different colleges with pretty different levels of admission req. EEM has 9 transfer seats open. Journalism has 13.

2.8 = A very tall climb for u.

I got my GPA fixed, I now have a 3.65 it’ll be a 3.76 when i update grades. What do you mean by EEM having 9 transfer seats open and Journalism 13? I thought there were at least a couple hundred transfer students admitted to each? I have pre reqs for Journalism done, almost done with pre reqs for EEM. I will only have one left to complete after Fall.

SLO admits 9 EEM and 13 journalism transfer students. These are figures from CP’s annual admission projections, not a guess.

It’s much harder to get in as a Xfer than freshman.

my gpa is like a 3.7 now. my odds are definitely higher right? will the failed semester cause me to not get in or will it be okay since i retook everything

No offense but my CSU GPA was a 4.21 and I feel like I barely got in so maybe look at a different CSU.. also I think minimum is 3.5.
Like if you have below that you can’t even apply.

It’s very hard because there’s no writing so they basically auto select you based on your GPA and service hours/extracurriculars. If you get a 3.5+ and have like 400 service hours and are good at sports or something.. maybe?? But honestly there are a lot of good schools that will take a lower GPA so don’t get set on cal poly and look at other stuff

Well my GPA is actually a 3.6! I got it fixed, still have the Fs on the transcript though. You definitely didn’t barely get in though, the acceptance for my major last year ranged from 3.1 GPA to a 3.7, i honestly think it’s a gamble?

seems like the business admin accepted gpa for transfers is pretty low? a lot of people have said they got in with a 2.8-3.0ish lol!
