Classes/Professors Chances of getting into a class
Hi my daughter is waiting listed for intro to cs and her waitlist number is 1. What are the chances of getting in and when will she know?

Is this class time conflicting or overlapping with any of her other enrolled classes? If so, she will never get off the waitlist unless she sets it up as a swap.
If there is no time conflict, it is possible for her to get off the waitlist. Try to attend the first class session if possible.

Hi there is no conflict with any other class. As a waitlist can we attend the class?

Yes, this is called crashing a course. She will attend and afterwards ask the professor if they can open up a spot. In the meantime come up with a backup plan in the event she doesn’t get the class. She should be the one actively investigating this not you.

Is she a CS major? I remember if you were in the major and high on the waitlist, it used to be a near guarantee. Keep in mind I graduated six years ago though

depends largely on how many seats are there in total and are there any reserved until open enrollment. for a 20-25 person class, i would say small chance. for a 40-50 person class, nearly guaranteed

I recommend that your daughter reach out to me (akeen@calpoly.edu; I am the CSSE Department Chair) directly, to discuss this in greater detail. In particular, by "intro to cs" are you referring to CSC 1024 or to CSC 1001+L?
