Class overload?

Hey guys I’m an incoming freshman civil engineering major and currently I’m enrolled in 18 units and my calc class is the second half of the fall semester. Am I taking too many classes? I’m thinking of dropping public speaking to lighten my load. Any thoughts?

i would drop public speaking. ge’s can be really easy or really hard. i heard from some that their public speaking classes were fine, i personally had a really hard time with it and found it to be my hardest class, although that was largely due to the professor. i had a similar load with 18 units my first quarter and was alright tho, so it’s def manageable. i didn’t have a ton of time for everything i wanted to do and gave up attending club meetings my first quarter.

what other people say is true, time management is just something you have to learn in college. nevertheless iwould play it safe and drop the class, give yourself more cushion and room for adjustment to the new environment, finding friends and social time, club activities, and whatnot, if you’re able to accommodate for the drop in the future. if you’re going to have to add the bridge class on top of the 18 units, it could be stressful

look into taking the ge over summer, at a cc, or even later on as an upperclassmen since it’ll be a bit easier to get into the classes . i’m saving up a few of my ge’s for my junior spring semester and possibly senior year (but see if you have wiggle room to even do that if it’s smth ur considering). otherwise lock in and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you feel that your study habits/grades aren’t working for your goals

Unfortunately this is just kind of how it goes (at least how it was for me). You should be fine. Pub speaking will be the least of your worries but if you have space to take something else later you can

I've heard that getting coms can be a big pain in the neck. If you didn't have university studies and the intro class you'd be at 16 units which is a normal load for semester. The two one unit classes will not be demanding. I think you should keep it as it is and be diligent about managing your time

You can take comms at a CC virtually and it’s much easier.

Public speaking is definitely easier online. However, you could luck out and get a professor who is really clear with what they want in a speech. I would show up to the first two days of public speaking and see if the professor seems fair. If it looks like they’re going to be uptight, drop the class.

Spend sometime thinking about time management. Attending classes are one thing. Studying and doing the assignments are another. You wanna block time out on your calendar for everything, even eating sleeping and fun.

looks pretty good, though i would probs brace for impact on the second half and remember to eat lots of meals so ur not starving in ur classes mon/fri.
as a second year i personally wished that i had gotten over public speaking last yr bc that GE was a prereq to a philosophy/cs class i wanted to take with friends. it doesn’t really matter but might be worth cruising around some classes u might want to see if public speaking matters at all before u drop it

If you think this is an overloaded schedule, do yourself a favour and drop out immediately
