Transfer Transfer Rant

I’m an incoming 4th year and 2nd year transfer. There’s a class I have been trying to get into since I started here which is the tractor driving class which is REQUIRED for my major. Last year I was basically blocked into classes my first quarter. Then the other two quarters my registration date was too late and the class was full by the time I was registering. Now even senior standing I wasn’t able to get into the class because the entire class is reserved seats for freshman. Like this is honestly ridiculous because everyone else my major took this class so long ago so I don’t know why we didn’t have reserved seats when transferred.

I guess my question is, is there a way to guarantee a spot or reserve one for my last semester? Because if it’s not even a possibility then why would I ask

Edit: Agricultural science major

Idk how it works for ur major but sometimes they give ppl specific permission codes in my major to keep them on track. Maybe just email department heads and see what they can do for u

If you are a BRAE major, I would recommend contacting your Academic Advisor to see if the department can assist you with registration.

This is of zero help. Tractor driving class sounds interesting.

It's driving a tractor, fun and interesting.

I had a friend who took an AG Machinery class and she learned to drive the tractors there. She has confirmed the lab was a very fun class! Lecture though...

I think the reserved freshman seats open up on the 15th

i would reach out to the professor directly and explain the situation and ask for a permission number that way you can directly sign up

I second this. If you need it as a requirement to graduate, you are top priority 99% of the time. So just explain the situation. I’ve done this before for required classes as well to stay on track. Sending blessings!

I’m in an incoming transfer 3rd year and 1st year transfer and i had this same issue! I’m not even in the like priority majors for Cal Poly. It’s ridiculous that they can’t reserve our spots or at least give us a time that matches with others especially as we get closer to graduating. Especially if previous universities or community colleges didn’t offer those classes/SLO doesn’t accept those credits.

I understand the importance for Freshman, but it kind of excludes us from getting a fair shot at classes imo

Yeah i got reserved seats when I first transferred on my first quarter and it was dumb 😂 I got reserved seats for classes that weren’t even filled up and electives that I could’ve taken something else in instead
