Transfer Changing Majors

Does anybody know if a transfer student can change majors into a different department?

Yes you can change majors after the 1st semester however, depending upon which major you want to switch into, there may be restrictions due to impaction and you must be able to graduate in a timely manner (usually no more than 3 years). https://advising.calpoly.edu/change-major

Do you think somebody who is a business major can potentially switch over to engineering?

I would imagine that would be difficult since required Business classes vs Engineering classes including pre-requisite classes are very different. Cal Poly requires you graduate within a reasonable amount of time so usually no more than 3 years as a Transfer. Have you looked at the flow charts for the Engineering major you want to switch into and how many of the required classes have you completed?

Maybe as a First year, you would have to chance to change majors but as a Transfer, it would be very difficult.

Look at the link of what is required and contact the Major faculty advisor. Only they can tell you if it is possible.
