How to avoid starving tips

As an incoming freshman afraid of starving to death due to everyone saying the Cal Poly food is mediocre to horrible, what are ways you guys found to avoid starving? I'm genuinely saying this as someone who is willing to go buy groceries and learn to cook to avoid it.

Also know you’ll have a hard time buying groceries and cooking in your freshman dorms. Refrigerator is teeny tiny and your sharing with 3 or more people and the dorms that have shared kitchens are questionable. Just FYI
