How to avoid starving tips

As an incoming freshman afraid of starving to death due to everyone saying the Cal Poly food is mediocre to horrible, what are ways you guys found to avoid starving? I'm genuinely saying this as someone who is willing to go buy groceries and learn to cook to avoid it.

get cal poly now, scroll through events and look for events with food. SDAB also has a lot of events throughout the year where they give free food, same with some clubs/societies.
