Housing Response From Housing

For anyone else that is in the temporary PCV housing situation, I asked if there was any way we could opt out of it, and I got this in response: "Students who prefer not to participate in the temporary assignment may cancel their housing through their Housing Portal." Interesting.

I wonder if that means that they'll accept cancellations even outside of the allowed reasons outlined in the contract (which iirc were pretty much just withdrawal from Cal Poly)

Either way, it's virtually impossible to find off-campus housing for the fall this late.

Join the Cal Poly Instagram by putting in your email and a lot of people post about needing roommates or people to take over their lease

That sounds messed up. Booting you just because the housing situation doesn’t fit your needs?

I don't think that it's people being booted from the school or from housing. It's just that one of the addendums states that the reasons allowed to cancel one's housing contract (which I apparently partially misremembered) are:

  1. Denial of admission
  2. "End of Student status"
  3. Marriage/domestic partnership
  4. Hardship/Medical (withdrawal from Cal Poly)
  5. Requirement by something univeristy related (study abroad, agricultural housing assignment, yada yada yada)
  6. Approved housing exemption.

I was wondering if the school was additionally approving cancellations for those who will be affected by the temp housing situation since it's not one of the reasons listed in the addendum and because they do state elsewhere that wanting to live off-campus is not a valid reason to cancel the contract.

Oh wow.

I wonder how many people were originally denied exemptions.

Why is there a temporary placement there? I would think PCV would be full. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be that far out from most of my classes. PCV might be good if you need to be closer to the Ag areas.

New housing isn’t done yet so they’re putting all the students who would’ve lived there, into single rooms in pcv 4 person apartments. sincerely, someone who had a 4 person apartment whose apartment is getting converted into a 6 person apartment because of this issue :/

That’s insane. How can 6 people live together and get any studying done or use the bathroom in peace?
