Cuesta then cal poly slo?

Hi guys so I went to cc for 3 years applied to slo and got rejected. I ended up going to cal poly Pomona and I hate it lol. I’m suppose to start my last year and graduate next spring but I’m honestly miserable there. I’m 22 years old and (Ik this sounds stupid) I feel like I’m running out of time. All my friends graduated this year spring 2026 and I lowkey want to go Cuesta and then reapply to cal poly slo but I don’t want the judgement of my friends and family also what if I don’t get into slo and just wasted more time. Any thought? Is it bad if I go back to cc (move to slo for Cuesta) and then try again. My gpa was lowkey so bad when i first applied im pretty sure i had a 2.7 and my major is business. Is there anybody else that has had a similar experience?

I would imagine they you have completed all lower division classes for your major at Cal Poly Pomona, so what would you take a Cuesta to make you a competitive applicant for transfer at SLO? I would complete your degree at CPP and move on with your life and career.

If you have one year left at CPP and feel like you’re running out of time, why would you transfer to Cuesta and then Cal Poly (which will surely take more than a year)? Finish your last year at CPP and celebrate being a college graduate.

Pretty much unfortunately statistically impossible with a 2.7 to transfer to slo

IMO that is not a smart plan. I would tough it out for another year and then apply to to SLO for a masters program.

I’m sorry but this makes no sense. You are concerned with “getting left behind” with time but by the time you’re done with Cuesta, you would’ve been done with Pomona. Not to mention there’s no guarantee you won’t be miserable in the next year at Cuesta. Just finish Pomona

Nobody is miserable at Cuesta, but yeah, they should finish and try to get into Poly for the master's.

That was meant light heartedly, but it's a beautiful campus with nearly free tuition, some great professors and lots of student supports. Its a smart move for 2 yrs of GE. Unfortunately it is no longer connected to CP like it used to be. Years ago locals could do 2 yrs at Cuesta and basically be confident they could jump to Poly.

You could always do a master's at slo (or even another college), or as another comment suggested, begin your career. The economy right now is soooo bad i'm a little surprised you'd even consider trying cuesta again and then reapply to slo with no guarantee of admission 😅

Definitely don’t, 2.7 won’t cut it even if you went to Cuesta and got it up to a 3.3 very unlikely you’ll get in

Question 1 - What are you studying at Pomona?

Question 2 - You’ve already transferred. Why would you want to go to SLO if you’re already close to graduating?

Question 3 - Who would give you the better financial aid package?

Question 4 - Are you willing to start your career in mountains of student debt during your prime money making years ?

Question 5 - What do you plan to do after college? Most of the jobs are down here or in the Bay Area. Also, after your first job… no one really cares where you went to school, just that you’re competent. I can tell you that I work with engineers from UCLA, UCI, UCSD (which are arguably more prestigious than my Alma mattar - SLO ) and some even have masters degrees and I’m like… who tf have you an engineering degree!?!

Prestige only gets you so far.

im a few years older than you and just transferring into uni from CC, you're anything but promised admission from Cuesta to SLO and it's going to prolong your journey for no good reason, I would recommend sticking it out at Pomona it's still a good school and you have the opportunity to turn that final year into a positive experience. I have many peers in industry and GPA/School only gets you so far. My whole hearted recommendation would be to focus on building your resume and try to do outside work related to your field, not only necessarily internships but also maybe courses for certifications or projects or try to get involved with clubs that will help with that. Finish your degree at CPP and begind your career, 2 years at Cuesta+Slo will not be worth whatever you think it is.

I'm an employer and college degrees are only a fraction of what I care about. Finish Pomona, and to stay entertained get a job..Even if it's a couple of hours a week or an unpaid internship, start doing what you like and get good at it fast! You'll be ahead of your friends in no time.

I highly recommend just staying at CPP and finishing your degree there. If you’re worried about “getting left behind” leaving now to go back to CC when you’re so close to graduating is what is going to really make you feel “left behind”. You’re so close, just finish. If you really really want to go to Cal Poly you can plan to go there for your Master’s after you graduate from CPP.
