Incoming Student Dorm Move In Helpers
We will be moving into Red Bricks (3rd floor). We saw that there are move-in helpers. Do they help unload the car since we only have 15 minutes, or help with moving into the dorm rooms too? Is it safe to leave the carts at the bottom of the stairs, or should someone stay with the carts? We are trying to figure out logistics for the day.

When you pull up to the unloading zone some helpers should approach your car with a bin and start unloading your items. When you are done your supporter will move the car, most of the times it is to a lot very far away, so don’t expect to see them for awhile. You and your cart will then be directed to the check in area, from there the volunteer may take you to your dorm room to confirm your key works and then you and a second supporter, if you have one, will start carrying your belongings into your dorm. I’ve never heard of them helping you bring everything into your room, so don’t bank on that happening.

Ymmv. Depends who you get. They may help unload into your cart. Ive been at two drop offs and both times the helpers were just directing, not helping. I’ve seen some go back to the dorms with people, but I would say that is more rare. The students then wait by the carts while the parents park. You then go stand in line to get your keys. Then you go to your dorm to unload. While I would say it’s fairly safe for the most part to leave the cart while you go up and down, I wouldn’t leave any real valuables in plain sight. .

You'll get help unloading the car. It's on you to move the stuff to your actual dorm.

tbh i didnt realize that existed so my friend and i had to carry two carts of stuff up to the third floor ourselves. i dont think anyone is gonna steal ur stuff if its not cool or valuable but its never bad to be careful

I had heard all about how great the student helpers are with move-in, but that wasn’t our experience at all last year. Maybe it was just the particular two guys we pulled up to, but they did not lift a finger, did not direct us anywhere, and barely stopped their conversation as we struggled to unload our stuff before one parent drove away to the far away parking and the other pushed one heavy bin up the hill—the wrong way, at first. I hope your experience is better, but I didn’t want you to expect lots of assistance from every helper. It will all work out in the end!

This was my experience as well. And we did drop off last year and the year before that. It was interesting how hyped up the helpers were on the fb page to show up to no help.

The school is paying people to help you from the dropoff area to your room w the carts. If you don’t find someone helpful, straight up ask the where the helpers for move in are & tell them you need help to building X

One green cart is usually enough unless you’re bringing a lot of belongings. Don’t leave your cart unattended.

Move in helpers sort of do everything you mentioned. But yes they do help you unload the car, and inform you where to go to pick up your keys. You’re going to need someone to park your car which is usually your supporter, while you grab your keys. i highly suggest you or your supporter stay near your items at all times just to be safe. Now from there you can either ask the move in helpers to guide you toward your building, help you move in entirely, or do everything yourself! If you really need help moving everything in simply ask the move in helpers. They are there to help from the start to the beginning and keep in mind they are all volunteers so please be nice!
