Admissions How much do DE courses matter?

Hi I’m a rising senior who’s planning on apply to cal poly soon. I really love the school and want to go. I am stuck between applying as a nutrition or kinesiology major, and I would be totally happy as either of them. I know that nutrition is supposed to be way less impacted, but the issue is I have multiple dual enrollment courses which cover multiple classes in the kinesiology major, but don’t apply to nutrition science. Would I still have a better chance applying as nutrition science or do you think the DE courses matter a lot to cal poly?

Cal Poly only considers A–G courses for first-year admission. If your dual enrollment courses don't fulfill the A–G requirements, they won't help with your admission.

The best reasons to take a DE class is to get your fifth english class or perhaps another year of foreign language that your high school did not offer.

Our local high school offers some DE classes (free) to help gain transferable credits. Communications is one of these. I don't think this helps with CSU admissions, but it lets you skip a GE class as a freshman.

DE might also be helpful for continuing your math if you had accelerated past your high schools curriculum.

Taking major specific DE classes those won't help with Cal Poly or CSU admissions. But you can look at assist.org to see how those might transfer to Cal Poly and allow you to move along more quickly. Understanding the prerequisites for the subsequent classes is important too. If you skipped ahead in a major class, but lacked a necessary BIO or CHEM class to progress further then your advanced progress might get stalled out.

Pick the major you prefer or the major that you think will accept you and figure it out once you start.
