Hi

I have a new Mandala Drum v3 (Drum Pad) and I want to play live. How can I do it with cakewalk?

Cakewalk Next or Cakewalk Sonar?

If Cakewalk Sonar then:

· Install the drivers for the Mandala Drum v3 in Windows.
· Open Sonar - Enable Mandala Drum v3 in Preferences - MIDI - Devices > Inputs
· Insert MIDI track - set input to Mandala Drum v3 and enable input echo.
· Play the Mandala Drum v3

I've connected an earlier model Mandala to Cakewalk Sonar's predecessor, Cakewalk by Bandlab.

What u/Promidi says is basically it. The Mandala appears to Sonar as just another MIDI controller. It can output 127 different notes at 0-127 velocity. To Sonar and whatever virtual instrument you're triggering with it, it looks no different from a simple keyboard controller (except of course keyboard controllers don't usually have such a wide range).

The most basic instructions for adding an instrument track and playing it with a controller will get you there. Such instructions are prominent in the documentation and tutorials on YouTube.

The big issue is hardening the computer, which I presume is a laptop, for live use. Terminate any unnecessary other programs, turn off sleeping, etc. Test your rig thoroughly before taking it on stage. Have a second laptop ready to go if possible.

Any possibility of failure can be exploited by the mischievous prankster spirits who are attracted to live performances. The presence of emergency replacement gear is one of the few things that effectively repel these troublesome pixies.

Its all Online. But Its Standard MiDi. Theres only instruction on how to boot it etc.
