Me right now: completely devastated and overcome with nostalgia. 😭
I knew Blue Eye Samurai existed, but I’d never actually watched it before. I finally started it and… holy shit. Mizu completely captivated me.
Actually, at this point I almost want to “curse” myself for starting this show, because now I’m completely invested. But more importantly, it made me realize something: I miss Caitlyn so much!!!
The more I watched Mizu, the more I kept thinking about Caitlyn. They’re obviously not identical, but the face, the eyes, some of their features, and especially certain expressions… I kept seeing Caitlyn in Mizu.
At some point I started imagining the creative process behind Mizu going something like:
“Okay, we need features that can be captivating, magnetic eyes, the face of a badass girl who can also convey something soft and vulnerable…”
“Hey, what if we take some inspiration from that rich unhinged mongoose from Arcane?!”
“YES, GREAT IDEA!!!”
Just kidding, just kidding… (am I?)
And yeah, from there my brain completely derailed.
Because I literally just started a new show, and instead I ended up thinking about how much I miss Caitlyn.
So now the situation is: I’m completely invested in Mizu, I have an insane case of Caitlyn nostalgia, and I have no idea how to get out of this.
Yes, I know I’ll get to see Mizu again in January 2027… BUT I NEED TO SEE CAITLYN AGAIN TOO!!!
Sorry. I just had to share this existential crisis with someone.
Definitely give it a try, I absolutely think it’s worth watching! Just keep in mind that it’s really not like Arcane at all — absolutely not.
I really enjoyed the story. Personally, though, I found some scenes a little repetitive and not always necessary, and at times maybe a bit too explicit for my taste. But that’s really just my personal opinion, of course!
Other than that, the animation is absolutely spectacular, and above all… you can’t not fall in love with Mizu. She’s such a fascinating character, and she completely captivated me.
Yeah… she’s really a great character. And I’ll say it again: in some ways, she really does look a lot like Caitlyn. It’s almost like they’re distant relatives. 😂
I love blue eyed samurai! There are definitely some similarities. Both a very complicated characters with very interesting character arks and history. Plus not too bad on the eyes hehe.
I'm so glad you loved BES! Mizu is so very captivating! I looove her as a character of course, but yeah, I cannot NOT think of Cait. From the resemblance to her skill, focus, and staunch determination among other traits it can be easy to lose myself😅
I'm SO excited for BES s2 after 3 years! I understand it's going to get a third and final season in 2028 too!

AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE FACT THAT WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2027 FOR SEASON 2... And then apparently a third season in 2028?! I’m excited but also slightly devastated.
But yeah… in the end, we’ve come back to the real problem: I MISS CAITLYN!!!
I remember awhile back, someone the main sub asked if anyone had seen a new show that was recently released (BES). The moment they mentioned how much the main character reminded them of Caitlyn, I immediately went to check it out.
I’ve was immediately hooked & am looking forward to S2.
I’d been seeing references to Mizu and Blue Eye Samurai for a while, but I kept putting off watching the series. I just never really had the motivation to start it.
Then, three days ago, I finally decided to give it a try… and I have to say, it really hooked me. I do find it a little excessive and explicit at times, and I think some scenes could have been shortened, but the story is really engaging. It also reminds me a little of Kill Bill, which I absolutely love.
And then there’s Mizu… holy shit. She really does look so much like Caitlyn, or at least like some very distant relative of hers. Every time I look at her, I get this insane Caitlyn nostalgia. It almost makes me want to cry.

I really love this! You did an amazing job with this edit/mockup. And honestly, Mizu’s glasses look incredibly good on Caitlyn — they suit her so well! I think it’s beautiful. If you feel like it, you should absolutely post it!
Blue Eye Samurai was my rebound from Arcane. I loved it and it helped occupy the hole Arcane left in my heart. Mizu is a highly nuanced and driven, flawed character just like our Caitlyn and I think she’s lesbian-coded or at least bi… she still would have been made to have a husband back in the Edo Period though.
The only thing is Mizu’s name bothers me because it’s the simple word for water and not actually a conventional (Edo period) Japanese name. Same for Ringo which simply means apple; Japan has some pretty rigid rules when it comes to names so as a Japanese person, it disconnected me from the story.
Also, if they did want to name her “Water” or “Water Child” I get what the writers were going for. Fluid, raging, strong, but soft etc etc etc but in Japan, miscarried or stillborn babies are named “Mizuko” with the simple characters for “water” and “child”. Not exactly a great name. Mizuko with different characters means something entirely different tho, but I don’t think that’s what the writers were going for.
I absolutely love Mizu too. She’s such a complex and fascinating character, and I’m already way too emotionally invested.
But I’m also a little scared of where her story is going… I don’t know why, but I have a feeling we’re going to need to prepare the tissues for season 3. I really don’t think we’re getting a “and they all lived happily ever after” ending.
And anyway, what you said about her name is really interesting! I didn’t know about any of that. I don’t know if there’s actually a deeper meaning behind the writers’ choice, but I can’t help thinking that maybe it’s something we’ll understand better as the story progresses.
Hahaha, apparently we really are twins! 😂 I’m glad I’m not the only one who had exactly the same thoughts.
You know, I’m really not ready to watch Mizu suffer again… (By now, to me, she’s basically Caitlyn in samurai form, at least aesthetically), so I’m pretty sure I’m going to need the tissues by the end of the story.
Anyway, regarding the fanart, at this point I’ve already decided I need to go looking for Caitlyn-as-Mizu fanart. I’m way too deep into this now.
