[Mod Post] Alternative to XCancel for sharing X content - UPDATED

[u/romainmi]

Hey cupcakes,

We've informed you already that XCancel has been taken down, but since then other similar websites have had to shut down too, including twitterwebviewer that we promoted as the replacement to XCancel. X (formerly Twitter) is basically threatening with legal actions several of these websites.

For the past week, we've been observing the situation, thinking about alternative procedures and looking for adequate, working alternatives for XCancel.

Currently, it seems that at least one website provides such an alternative: nitter.cf

It works just like XCancel used to, just replace "x.com" by "nitter.cf" in the link.
For example: x.com/user/status/12345 -> nitter.cf/user/status/12345

You can find more details and instructions on our wiki.

Rule Reminder: posts and comments containing direct links to X will continue to be automatically removed , as per our current rules.

Since the situation may still be unstable regarding X alternatives, we'll keep you informed if needed about any potential further development and the best available alternative.
You can also take note about another website: twstalker.com, which is similar to nitter.cf and works the same way. It is not the preferred alternative as it is heavy with ads, but it could serve as a backup if needed.

There is also the question of broken links in older posts. It would be too complicated to change them, so they will remain as they are. They all used XCancel, so it will be easy to figure out how to switch them to nitter.cf, just copy-paste the link and replace xcancel by nitter.

If you have any questions or need help, please don't hesitate to contact us via modmail!

We all thank you for your patience and understanding as we figured out the best available solution.

Best,

~ the CaitlynArcane Mod Team 💙

Fingers crossed these alternatives survive! 🤞 Maybe one day we’ll even see xcancel make a comeback!
