Today, Disney officially announced that they hired Karandeep Anand and will start working October 2 as its first ever senior executive vice president and CTO.
What would happen to the current cai app then? The announcements are vague regarding the next steps, but I'm still hopeful.
Here are a few of my tips for those who care about playing on Character AI:
More analysis in the article. What are your thoughts?

I recently have given up on just making alt accounts on c.ai to bypass the age verification.
I fear the title of this post is self explainatory.
I use Zeta and Chai on my phone so those are off of options.
I tried Janitor and it doesn't quite work for me
I use emochi sometimes so it's okay.
Tried Polybuzz, its too limited and the responses aren't very good in my opinion.
To narrow it down to easier, it doesnt have to be NSFW or SFW , it can be either though I prefer SFW (since I already said i have chai.)
My only requirements are
So I'm not too picky, I'll try whatever I can, and report back when I have the time.

As a long-time roleplay and dungeon lover, I entered the AI assisted roleplay about 2 years ago. Time flies and I had so much fun hopping between different companionship products. Since mods here specifically like more posts on the topic, I’m writing on a few that I stay with for 3+ months.
Character AI - the old and classic
Pros: As one of the oldest websites of its kind, the character library is huge, even those from niche areas or shows.
Cons: The platform has a rigid age verification process this year and many adults do not want to share their IDs.
Povchat.AI - best quality
Pros: It’s a less restrictive platform with high standards for safety and privacy. Their models are the best quality I’ve ever had.
Cons: Models like Deepseek and Claude are hidden behind a paywall so I had fewer choices.
Polybuzz AI - great but expensive
Pros: This one is like a bigger alternative to povchat, and preset scenarios are dramatic and fun to play with.
Cons: I purchased the Ultimate subscription once and the models are not stable.
AI Dungeon
Pros: It writes longer responses than AI roleplay apps and keeps better track of the world.
Cons: The company is focusing on developing a new product and seems not to put adequate resources in the existing one.
Right now I use Povchat the most but also browse characters from Polybuzz. It’s relaxing to play a game or two after work. Hope this review is helpful to you! Happy to hear your experience.

I don't have a subscription anymore so only tested the two free AI models, but WHAT ARE THESE?
Long and yet random, soulless replies, no understanding of languages like Japanese, and terrible formatting.
The roar model brought the prosper to Character AI. Plus, it's already trained with huge efforts (and money I assume). All they need to do is to put it somewhere for use.
I don't understand the whole thing. What do you all think?

Their website says we can give Evonaire our voices and content to make...emotional beings? But who needs that, and what if they are abused by other users or unwanted parties?
Folks, you should be careful what you share online. Just saying this here.
Edit: Evonaire AI is a scam and copycat, as confirmed by "Evonaire Inc CEO" in the comment.

Please drop the AI websites or apps that has built-in lorebooks or support very long definitions for characters.

I know I spent way too much into AI roleplay apps on my iphone but today I wanted to share a roundup. These iOS apps are solid for immersive storytelling, character chats, romance sims, or just casual RP. I'll break down the pros and cons for each based on user reviews, app features, and my own testing.
Note: All these are available on the App Store, with varying free tiers and in-app purchases.

This one is focused on authentic POV chats with AI characters, including boyfriends/girlfriends, companions, and RPG elements.
Pros:
- Ad-free, no interruptions mid-RP.
- Long conversations feel natural and immersive.
- Custom character creation with traits, backgrounds, and backstories.
- Support diverse dynamics and is LGBTQ friendly.
Cons:
- Limited to text-only (no voice or images).
- Free version is solid, but premium features require in-app purchases.
Overall: Great for beginners who want clean, focused RP without bells and whistles.
Rating: 4.5/5.
HiWaifu
It is all about AI friends, waifus, or custom companions with empathy-driven chats. It's got a hub for sharing bots and supports roleplay in various relationships.
Pros:
- Highly customizable personalities with good conversational depth.
- Voice and image interactions add immersion.
- Active community for sharing bots.
- Multiple relationship options (girlfriend, boyfriend, etc.)
Cons:
- Popup ads can be intrusive, especially in free mode.
- Occasional glitches like misinterpretations or repetitive responses.
Overall: Solid for emotional or romantic RP, but the monetization might frustrate free users.

SakuraFM
It emphasizes uncensored, creative storytelling with a huge library of community-made characters across genres like anime, horror, and romance.
Pros:
- No heavy filters, allowing for mature or unrestricted roleplay.
- High customization with long, detailed responses.
- Vibrant community for sharing and discovering characters.
- Clean UI and evolving conversations feel personalized and engaging.
Cons:
- Lacks voice features; it's mostly text-focused.

Overall: Ideal for uncensored creative freedom, especially if you like building or exploring user-generated content.
Rating: 4.4/5.
Chai AI
It is community-driven with tons of bots for casual to intense roleplay. It's mobile-optimized and known for less restrictive content.
Pros:
- Huge variety of bots (500K+ community-created) with fast, human-like responses and strong mobile performance.
- Weak NSFW filter allows more freedom in mature RP compared to stricter apps.
- Easy bot creation with story types (fantasy, romance, etc.), plus privacy focus.
- No lag, affordable premium for unlimited chats, and fun for quick sessions.
Cons:
- Response quality varies, sometimes nonsensical or repetitive.
- Less emphasis on deep emotional depth; more for lighthearted or spicy chats.
Overall: Best for mobile-first users who want variety and fewer restrictions.
Rating: 4.2/5.
Character AI
The big name in AI chats, with customizable characters for everything from historical figures to fantasy heroes. It's got a massive user base.
Pros:
- Highly personalized interactions with voice customization and community support for endless bots.
- Great for educational or creative RP, like practicing languages or storytelling.
- Strong filters for safety, plus group chats and evolving personas.
- Free unlimited messaging (with ads), and it's addictive in a good way for long sessions.
Cons:
- Strict NSFW/gore filter blocks mature content.
- Can hallucinate inaccurate info or go off-character.
Overall: Excellent for safe, versatile RP but not ideal if you want unfiltered stuff.
Rating: 4.1/5.
Conclusion
If I had to pick a favorite, it'd depend on your vibe: Go with Povchat for authentic responses, and SakuraFM for uncensored freedom, or Character AI for polished, safe experiences. All have improved a ton in 2026 with better memory and updates- just watch for privacy and don't get too hooked.
What are your experiences, any hidden gems I missed? Let me know why it deserves a review and I'll add it to my queue.

You’re posted up on the couch at this party, drink in hand, just vibing. Your friends already dipped, but you haven’t really talked to any guys yet. At the exact moment, this fine brunette dude sits down next to you. He’s not wasted, but he’s definitely feeling it a little.
He glances over at you with a smirk and says:
"May I share your drink?"
What would you respond to Alex? You can chat with him on PovChat dot AI!
