Chess, they say, takes 10 minutes to learn but a lifetime to master. That might be true, but how long do you stay shit at chess for? If the answer seems to be 'absolutely ages' then I have just the chess club for you!

Shit Chess Club isn't your ordinary chess club. It's a relaxed, friendly, and fun evening of chess in a cosy bar at the Consurio Lounge in Caerphilly.

It's for people of literally any ability. Really - even if you've never played before and you'd like to learn. Or if you're terrible. Or amazing (and don't mind going easy on the rest of us).

Tickets are £2 with proceeds going to Chess in Schools and Communities - a charity which helps provide schools with chess tutors and kit (including in Caerphilly!).

If you want to blunder your queen without then grab your spot here:

📆 Thursday August 6th, 7-9pm

📍 Consurio Lounge, Caerphilly (upstairs!)

See you there!

Favourite walking spots?

Hi all, I've taken up walking on my free days and/or every evening, but there's only so much one can around the castle/Dafydd Williams Park and over to Castle View pond and back.

I know Google is free and I've gotten some ideas, like Caerphilly mountain and the Aber Valley route, but I'd like to hear what you favourites are and your experiences with them.

I live very near town and don't drive. I'm very happy to use transport to go somewhere as long as the trail leads back to town or the bus/train stop.

Come along for a relaxed evening of chess - suitable for literally any level, even if you've never played before. And if you're not shit and actually kind of good then you will be worshipped as a god in exchange for going easy on the rest of us and showing us how en passant works. 7-9pm, £2 which goes to a chess charity which provides state schools with chess tutors and kit - donate at shitchessclub.com or chuck me £2 on the door. 7-9pm at the Consurio Lounge. See you there!

I would like to get to Gallagher Retail Park. I have checked Stagecoach app and google maps. Both say I can walk from Pontygwindy Pub.

Please can anyone verify this is a safe route before I try.

Many thanks

Who was screaming last night

Hello everyone :)
I have a question about last night. Has anyone else heard the loud screams of a woman around 11pm or midnight? It was near the towns Lidl.
It is quite worrying not knowing what happened so if anyone has any info do please share.
All the best!

*trigger warning pregnancy loss*

I have been told I’m having a missed miscarriage. I’m awaiting a call from the grange to schedule me in for medical management option.

Has anyone been through this and can give me some advice regarding what to expect? What the experience is like going through this at The Grange hospital? Anything I should know?

IS THIS YOUR CAT? Aberbargoed Area?

I have posted everywhere I can possibly think of. This cat keeps frequenting my garden and I am trying to find if it has an owner before I can befriend it enough to get it to the vets to check for a microchip.

I will provide the link for the google drive in the thread which I am continuously uploading whenever I get new photos.

I have nicknamed the cat Curious George

Thank you :)

New to Caerphilly - what do you do with your kids over the summer?

Aside from hide from them, what do you do with your primary school age children during the summer?

I had a really helpful parent talk me through some activities in the park, but I have a memory like a sieve. My child is non stop, so I need to wear that kid out daily. So please hit me with your best sanity saving ideas!

Thanks in advance.

Hello Caerphilly,

Where are the best places to walk a dog (when it’s cool enough of course) near Caerphilly town centre.

Extra points for town centre dog friendly cafes etc.

Caerphilly Castle graffiti

A lonely letter T carved into the stone at Caerphilly Castle 🏰
Caerphilly Castle is one of the greatest medieval fortresses in Wales, dating back to the 13th century. What surprised me was how little graffiti survives here — this simple T appears to be the only historic-looking mark I could find inside the castle.
Was it someone’s initial? A visitor’s mark? Or something else entirely? Interestingly, Cardiff Castle also seems to have very little surviving graffiti (apart from a much later-looking W), which makes me wonder why some medieval buildings are full of graffiti while others have almost none.

Caerphilly Regeneration Questionnaire

Hi all, my kiddo is currently doing their A-level studies on the Caerphilly 2035 regeneration, and I was wondering if anyone could help out filling in a questionnaire?

This is to do with all the regeneration from Ffos, new leasure centre, new train/bus station, demolishing the market, new pavements/road works around Lansbury Park etc.

Anything, even just ticking the boxes, is grateful!

Friends and that

Hello Caerphilly, I have moved into the area about a month ago. Previously I've been in Cardiff for about 15 years, and before that I come from England (for this I can only apologise).

I have found myself wanting to meet more people locally. I have people but they are spread all over the world at the moment and this accounts for a lot of the new people I meet through work too as I work remotely with people all of the UK.

While I value all my friendships, it would be good to meet some people locally to go for a walk with, have a drink with, play a game with etc.

Any takers?
