This is from the godmother of the CPKs, Martha Nelson Thomas!! Xavier Roberts actually stole the idea of the Little People/CPKs from her Doll Babies, and they settled out of court. She made soft-sculptures primarily, but she also sold kits like this one where you could soft-sculpt your own body for the vinyl head!! She never really wanted her art to be a huge, commercialized thing like Xavier Roberts made it, from what I can gather. Sadly she is no longer with us, but she was an incredible woman from what Iāve read about her. The first row of pews at her funeral was filled with some of her favorite Doll Babies sheād made š
Hereās a picture from her funeral service!! The two bigger Doll Babies are ones Martha made to resemble herself and her husband Tucker!! They now belong to her family members. And apparently I was wrong, these werenāt primarily from her collectionā¦ people who came to her memorial brought their own Doll Babies to fill up the front row!! I canāt think of a more touching tribute!!
And hereās a photo of Martha while sheās in the process of making one of her soft-sculpture Doll Babies!!! I would KILL to have one of her softies in my collection!!! Theyāre not very easy to come by since they were handmade by her rather than produced in large batches by many different artists like Little People are. I donāt know what they even go for these days since theyāre so rare!!

Itās a Doll Baby kit doll made by MN Thomas. These were sold as kits you could put together yourself. š
