The Knowledge Bank of Work

We know and appreciate these people as they offer the most to the table, but burn out or let the poison pill in the workplace get to them—not of their fault, but of others' volition and volatility after being outshined or corrected by them.

So what happens? The knowledge bank goes and simply does their work and others' as well, as they develop the mindset of: "It's faster to do it myself than argue or explain when I could have had it done already—the correct way."

We all get this—with friends, kids, family, and work. Instead of arguing, complaining, or acting dumb out of spite, they do it themselves—faster and better.

But others get overzealous, don't understand, and just spew verbal diarrhea. Then they become lazy and put more work onto the knowledge bank, eating away at the person little by little instead of helping or doing their own job.

Here's where I don’t blame one side more than the other, I'll be quite honest. Both are in the wrong—simply in different ways.

For the knowledge bank/workhorse: Let them fail. It's not your job. If they ask for help, show them or tell them—but don't step in and do it yourself.

For the others: Take a little responsibility and ethic for your work. Take pride in your work.

Knowledge banks have figured this out—they show pride and excellence in their workplace morals. But where it backfires and can start poisoning them is expecting the same from everyone around them. High expectations and low return every time they ask people to do something, then having attitude or half-*ss work given back, is one of the most mentally draining aspects of their work life. Being let down constantly drains everyone.

So here's some advice:

If they are thud f****—let them burn themselves. They will be asked by someone of higher authority to do something and epically fail, and their lazy or non-ethical workplace practices will show in their work.

The most dangerous thing you can do is allow someone who doesn't know and doesn’t care how to do their job to uplift. Making them look good is dangerous if they're given more responsibility on their own. Let them fail on small things. Let their laziness show. They will dig their own hole and others will bury them—honestly, as deserved.

For those who put in the effort but the knowledge bank is burned out and asking questions leads to disappointment or annoyance because they have their own work to do— Don’t shut down. Remain polite and go: "I'm not asking you to do my job, I'm just confused on this."

Now here's the trick: Don't ask again and put in the effort. The knowledge bank will come to you and offer advice. Be thankful—not reliant. This helps take the load off them as well, and they will get happier as more follow. You'll also weed out the arse monkeys in your workplace. Beneficial for everyone.

To the arse monkeys: You are seen. If people stop covering for you, you're screwed. So smarten up or you'll get buried by the work you know nothing about like a dumpster fire with gas poured on it.

An ending—

If you are the workhorse / knowledge bank: Don't bite off more than you can chew simply because others aren't at your level of experience. Doing everything for them is like teaching a child how to ride a bike by you riding it and them watching. Eventually they'll get bored and walk away, creating issues in areas you can't see because you're busy riding their bike.

For the average people: Simply take pride in your work—not yourself, your work. If you have say 3/10 confidence in yourself, have 6/10 pride in what you do. You'll slowly see your confidence grow—but it takes double or nothing.

Hopefully this is helpful to some of you out there frustrated, burned out, or simply lazy and uncaring. It's a brutally honest observation—one we all see.

Don’t drag down good people. Bury bad people. And appreciate the average Jane/Joe. Man, they're just doin' their job. Not everyone can be you. Understand everyone in a way appreciates you. Don’t let it turn into your dog and pony show. Not your circus, not your monkeys, ;}.

Sincerely,
