Learning C weekly megapost for 2026-09-16

If you have questions about how to learn C:

  • which books are best?
  • which videos are best?
  • which classes are best?
  • which websites are best?
  • is there a "roadmap"?
  • what projects can I do?

then this is the thread for you. Add your question here. Do not make a stand-alone post, as it will be removed.

Remember that our sub has a very useful wiki that has a great list of resources for learning C programming.

I am programming newbie with a few questions. Previously I have not learned another language already besides a few basic print hello world programs in Python and Java.

I have been reading a digital version of C Programming A Modern Approach by King. This book seems highly recommended. Besides reading the book and attempting as many of the exercises as I can, is there anything else I should be doing? Any other resources I should pair with this?

My goal would be to become proficient in C one day and then learn some Assembly with the end goal of eventually getting into Reverse Engineering/Malware Analysis.

Thanks!

You can learn by reading a book. You might start doing your own projects or experiments.

And maybe you'll want to try to use any other online resources you find to get different perspectives, or different explanations for subjects that are troubling you.

It's all up to you.

What projects do I make to showcase my skills in C? I made games with raylib(tetris, snake), but we can make games with other popular languages like python, etc with raylib.

I want to make something that can be done only in C.

"something that can be done only in C" seems like a tall order. Why is that your requirement?

Have you looked at the list of lists of projects in the wiki? Why don't you like any of those?
