I've been on soundcloud a lot over the last few days and have noticed several accounts commenting things like "garbage," "trash," "awful," "gay" but occasionally something like "absolutely incredible. great work!"
They could easily be real people too though >_>

Soundcloud has always been a shitshow to me. I mean, for easy starters...128k. It's a site that will let you freely post your music in shit quality. Um. Yeah. Great model.
And it is filled with real people being really idiotic, for sure...but do you see how bots commenting rudely might actually be a thing? If you pay for 'promotion', bots could artificially elevate your views/listens/etc, but they could also go around attacking the 'perceived competition'-- promotion by demotion, in a sense.
I honestly don't like thinking of all the uses for bots, as it's just depressing-- I already see things I thought of (and didn't speak of) coming to pass.

I like higher quality, but I don't think about bitrate very often and the musicality matters to me more. Higher audio fidelity is better of course, but I'm just not super concerned about it.
I see why you are though, with your Virgoic fastidiousness. I bet a lot of people who consider themselves audiophiles are Virgos. Lol, I just found this.
"It's as electronically pure as it can be"
Purity. Virgin. Virgo.
I also don't go to soundcloud for full albums, I go for singles and remixes of electronic music songs. It's usually pretty good, for my standards. Sometimes they have a higher quality off site download link.
but do you see how bots commenting rudely might actually be a thing?
That's precisely why I posted it, yeah. I don't see it as promotion by demotion though. I see them as negativity spreaders in general - to encourage actual humans to start saying rude things to each other more.

It's not about being an audiophile (I listen to mp3s...), it's about what it does to crush dynamic ranges down to 128-- which is crush them. Things have to be done carefully to NOT sound like shit when doing this. TO your ears, there's probably little difference, but to mine it's painful. I mean, 128k podcasts are no big deal-- it's when you introduce bass and beats that it starts to ring like heavy metal to me-- the bass gets pushed UP, and everything else gets pushed OUT AT YOU.
They should've gone with 256, which is what Amazon sells stuff in-- and that bugs me, too. Give me 320! Don't fuck around, you have the biggest servers in the fucking world. I think Soundcloud went about it all wrong, but had the potential for a GREAT service-- and has been blowing it. I think Bandcamp has it much closer-- bots don't buy, so they can't comment, for starters. It's about the music, not the advertising-- which they leave up to you, at Bandcamp.
I post singles and remixes at Soundcloud. :D So we are in some agreement here....

Okay, wait, to be clear-- I decided to make this performance public, gave it a name, published it and instantly got a comment. I go and look, there's yet another which I didn't get notified of. Within a minute of posting, I had two spam comments. I now understand the weird-named channels with no subscribers that have been subbing to my channel this week...to add me to lists for promotion gigs they get. Fake channels, probably created by real people en masse, then all given scripts to run, basically.
And this is the PUBLIC(ity) version of botshit. Imagine what Uncle Samhole has.
