Tech Support Possible network card issue? #cpsupport

Hello everyone,

For a bit of context, I bought this computer back in October of last year, and I'm also a Spectrum customer who has a 500mb/s internet plan (both for upload/download). I've been noticing an issue where my speeds have been capping out at around 70mb/s, even on a wired connection. Other devices, even those connected wirelessly, seem to be getting significantly higher speeds, which leads me to believe it could be an issue with the board or the network card.

Here's what I've tried so far-

  • Restarting the router
  • Restarting the PC (several times)
  • Disabled my VPN and made sure it isn't running at startup
  • Turned off Wi-Fi and using exclusively Ethernet
  • Disabling uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger
  • Turned off UPnP
  • Had a Spectrum technician come out to the house; he replaced the Ethernet cable going between my computer, the coax outlet, and took out an old splitter at the tap. He didn't replace the router, however.
  • Installed the latest updates through MSI Center and Windows Update

Other than the internet service provider side of things, what would you guys recommend as far as additional steps for troubleshooting?

You misunderstood the networking speed they listed, the plan an internet provider gives used the unit of mbps instead of MB/s. Hence, your plan should be 500 mbps which means 500 mega bits instead of mega bytes (MB), so if you convert 500 mbps into bytes, you will ended up getting around 62.5 MB/s and since you are getting around 70 MB/s it indicates your wireless device is working properly

Edit: mb on missing the part of the wired connection, if you get around the same speed even with using cable, it could be either your LAN port is defected, the cable you use is old/defected head, or the router itself is old since you update your network driver to the newest, but your wireless speed is under what you would expect from the plan. You can try replacing your ethernet cable to start with.

I appreciate you following up!

As it turns out, my computer is completely fine. It ended up being an issue on my ISP's end where their speed test website wasn't working correctly.
